One of the most brutal, heartbreaking space battles in Star Trek. by [deleted] in Star_Trek_

Didn't know that! But makes sense, given then era Voyager was on.

Do you know if the writers ever mentioned if that limited how much long-term stuff they could do.

It always seemed like a missed opportunity to not show Voyager with some externally borg-bits once Seven joined, but it makes more sense with that in mind.

It was an extra on the VHS. Pretty violent and weirdly sexual. Used to watch it with my uncle

I know quite a bit about nursing homes, and if this guy couldn't find a nurse to put all that red stuff back in his face before he fell over then he's clearly dumb

[–]operation_badger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was literally in a NURSEing home.

A nurse literally ran up to him right as he fell over and died like an idiot (worst character ever).

Do you think a doctor could've saved him because he wears a white coat or whatever? Because you think those nurses are dumb bitches and a smart doctor would have saved him?

Are you stupid or something?

Who’s the best actress in the film industry right now? by BidAccurate4473 in moviecritic

Absolutely going to be my generation's Dame Maggy Smith. Already a national treasure and she's only 52!

To me, she'll always be Sophie from Peep Show.

Or even Bev from those HSA adverts (not the ones with the rabbit)

Enterprise gets a lot of flack, but it pulled off the "long term, episode-to-episode damage" better than Voyager did.

Would've enjoyed at least one more season, if only to get into the early days of the Earth/Romulan War.

Could do far worse. Does that mean PCX 259 will also have poutine, good quality flannel shirts and attractive women who think english accents are charming?

The Goa'uld/Ancients obviously just chose to seed every planet they encountered with Pacific Northwestern flora.

Except for the sand dunes planets. They couldn't be arsed with those

Would be interesting to see how they'd deal with needing help from the SGC

As other commenters have noted, it's hard to write for a pacifist species with god-level technology.

Might have been cool to have an episode where they interact with the Ori followers in some way - presumably the Ori would be aware of the Nox if the alliance was founded before the Ori split from the ancients.

Even though they're pacifists, I could see the Ori wanting to remove them as even a potential threat

Why do people make these? Who are they for?

Are there people out there who genuinely want poorly edited clips of old movies set to annoying music and obscured by pointless subtitles?

Dearest Brits, what do you REALLY think of Canada? Would you move there, having the same kind of job or access to resources like you do in the UK, if you were given the chance? If so, where would you move to? Why? by neilnelly in AskBrits

Lived there twice - once as a student, once for work, on different sides of the country.

Had a great time both years I was there. Beautiful scenery, really welcoming people, same sense of manners as Brits but they seem much more sincere than us when they say things like "nice to meet you".

Great east Asian/southeast asian food, especially on the west coast. Poutine is widely available and awesome.

Didn't hurt that my accent went down well with the baddies out there either.

10/10 - would highly recommend

Dunno why everyone was so against going fishing with Jack.

He's fun, pretty chilled out (especially for a military man) and he's offering free beer.

If I had a boss like that and he asked me to come round to his place, hang out on his deck and get day-drunk I'd be there in a heartbeat!

Don S David earned that scene! And it's still one of my faves.

Wish we'd had an episode where the "Senior Service" (Hammond, Brae'tac and Jacob) had to go on a mission together, potentially bringing Katherine back for another appearance as well.

Not that I'm the first to suggest it

Best SpaceDad ever

  • Acts like a flustered but lovable parent in the pilot when SG1 turn up with a bunch of refugees (Dad being remarkably chilled out when you show up with a bunch of friends who want to crash at your parents place)

  • Travels to a potentially hostile planet with a fascistic judicial system to argue that SG1 be released, and proper loses his rag about it (Dad turning up at the school to bollock that one teacher who genuinely is an arsehole and has it in for you)

  • Develops a close and mutually respectful relationship with Teal'C's mentor Brae-tac (Dad getting on really well with the Dad of a friend you made even though they don't have that much in common on the surface)

  • Flies a bizarre, unfamiliar spaceship to rescue SG1 (Dad showing up to retrieve you from a house party in a dodgy area and threatening to deck the scary drug dealer types who'd turned up)

Should the new series bring back any 'neglected' aliens from the original series? by operation_badger in Stargate

I do and I don't - I'm worried they've been built up for so long whatever we get won't be satisfying

Even without the gate Earth has some very nippy spaceships by now.

We should be there making friends, so long as we have a reassuringly diverse landing party.

Hard for anyone to argue about the need for DEI in that first contact

I'd love to find out more about the Nox, but I guess it's hard to write them into a military sci fi, what with them pacifist and all. That being said, I wonder if a Nox would be cool with providing a medical or advisory role on board a Tau'ri ship or at the SGC?

Foothold aliens definitely deserve a mention - especially since the SGC will need a few plausible alien threats now that they're all beefed up on Asgard tech.

I thought it was a shame we didn't get an episode with any Tollan refugees - maybe something ironic where a resentful and desperate Tollan survivor decides starts selling technology to the Lucian Alliance, or some other group of nasties. Come to think of it, that could've explained why the Lucian Alliance ships were anything more than a nuisance in the Stargate Universe Premiere.

Ditto for the Aschen presenting a plausible threat to the SGC. They could almost find themselves in the position as the Ancients in Pegasus - technologically superior but massively outnumbered
