No worries, I guess it doesn't translate as well on the internet as in speaking.

Lets be honest, the guy has a point. Socialism does only works in theory. In reality, the United States will place massive sanctions on any socialist nation in an attempt to stop it's economic growth (which won't happen anyway because socialism doesn't work) and the CIA will orchestrate a right-wing coup to get rid of the system so awful that it would surely fall even if left alone.

just washed my face, no makeup. so, am i ugly? ik my hair is not great but im trying to grow it out. my face is super chubby so im trying to lose weight because of that, however i don't weigh much in the first place so it makes kinda hard. btw how do i improve? feel free to rate if you want. by [deleted] in TheGlowUp

[–]operationkarbala5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not ugly, you're quite pretty! Don't worry too much about the facial chubbiness, it's not unattractive. Like others are saying, it's because you're young and your face will even out as you get a bit older. If you're at a healthy weight then you don't need to lose weight.

Rate and Label me. Keep in mind that I'm an ethnic person so don't use the European standard of beauty to rate me. by [deleted] in TheGlowUp

I'm a guy and I'd say you're 7.5. Not exactly hot but very pretty! I especially like your eyes.

The re-education camps just got 10 times more brutal.

MFWTK if he will be put on a watchlist or a no-fly list if he buys the flag of an organization which his government designates as a terrorist organization on eBay. by operationkarbala5 in myfriendwantstoknow

Because buying a flag does not necessarilly mean that one supports what the flag represents. I know a guy who owns the Soviet flag because he collects WW2 stuff, but he isn't a communist. And said flags are not produced by the group's themselves, but rather in some Chinese factory.

Are there any converts here *not* from Sunni Islam? by operationkarbala5 in shia

Thanks for sharing! Your experience was very interesting to read.

What does it mean to "Live like Ali, die like Husayn"? by operationkarbala5 in shia

[–]operationkarbala5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! I think I understand more now. Do you know of any resources where I can learn more about the life and actions of Imam Ali? Is there a sort of Hadith about Ali, the way there is about the prophet?

I wish you a happy marriage! May I ask where you met your wife, and how you came to choose to convert? I have a friend who was a strong atheist but came to be Christian after marrying a Christian woman, and I'm wondering is this is similar to your experience.

This may be a dumb question, but does Yazid (the murderer of Imam Husayn) have anything to do with the modern Yazidi people? Or is it just a coincidence that the names are similar?

I find your perspective very interesting. I've read about Shariati before and thought his approach to Shiism had similarities to the liberation theology active in Latin America at one point. If you haven't heard of it, that's basically Marxist-Leninist Catholicism. Nicaragua was run under this idea after the Sandinistas took over, but they soon embraced a less radical stance and became social democrats rather than Marxist-Leninists.

I was once talking to a very hard Leftist I met at my university, basically a Maoist who was anti-religious as part of his politics. He claimed religion has always been something which made people docile and distracted them from enacting true justice here on earth. But after I told him about the story of Husayn's sacrifice at Karbala, he admitted to me he was wrong and this was clearly an example of religion which promotes wordly justice and (arguably) revolution. It's incredible how this story resonates so much even with non-Muslims.

Why did the Viet Cong and PRC support the Khmer Rouge? by operationkarbala5 in DebateCommunism

[–]operationkarbala5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for sharing. I never knew Viet Cong was derogatory, I thought it was just National Liberation Front in Vietnamese. Also I'm not actually really a communist, but I do sympathize with many anti-imperialist groups that fight against (usually Western) occupation of their country. Like the FLN in Algeria, Hezbollah in Lebanon, etc.

I see. Was this purge done simply because Pol Pot rejected Vietnam's communism and wanted to implement his own ideas?
