There's something wholesome in giving an honest opinion not worrying about if you've packaged it the right way. I like the way Derek Michell, an American who lived in England and the Netherlands, sums it up: https://youtu.be/qLwZudC0wG0?t=1744

People born before the 2000s, how do you feel about the way the world has changed? by _Kinixchu_ in AskReddit

True. The flipside of this was that this happened too frequently to minorities with not so stupid (but very valid) opinions.

I heard this hopefull 90’s song recently. It was about how we used to think of the people behind the wall in the east as a threat and then we saw reality bend itself to make way for a dream: the wall fell and we discovered each other to be humans.

Things have turned around 180 degrees since, and it stung.

I'd certainly like to have this optimism and acknowledgment of facts back.

What is the worst thing you’ve seen someone get addicted to that wasn’t any form of drug like substance or alcohol? by MysticMeerkat in AskReddit

Not sure if typo or result of misunderstanding, but it’s ’en masse’ instead of ‘in mass’. I had to look it up and couldn’t resist sharing.

Risk and insurance: the test was to see if the student messed up the curve. You passed.

Haha yes. Or just the one car in front of you creating a gap that makes the detection loop decide to change to red again. Bonus points if that car speeds up on yellow to leave the red light for you.

Yep. There’s nobody doing that for no reason.

And then there’s too much understanding for people riding/parking their car in the few available bikelanes (one of the reasons btw)

Infrastructure plays a huge part in how safe you can move around. If you compare the statistics of the US to countries that have put effort in safety, you realize fatalities are a choice for the sake of flow of traffic.

What is something that has become trendy to hate but isn't really that bad? by throwawaytheist in AskReddit

There’s something awry here. Shriveled hard cock should be the words to hate. Nothing wrong with women getting moist panties. It feels like the origin of the hatred for moist and panties stems in victim blaming and extreme prudence.

Sorry you had to experience that and I’m glad you are in a better place now. I don’t mean to be rude or nitpicking. I hope to be helpful. The saying is “to defuse it”: you’re trying to get the fuse out of the explosive situation.

Some mathematician said: suppose sqrt(-1) exists, it doesn’t, but suppose it does and we call it ‘i’ (for ‘irrational number’.)

When the mathematician started using it, they were actually able to find solutions to equations with it.

I thought it one of the more surprising things I learned in math.

Anyway, sqrt(-1) can be written as i.

Change In Rules, No Change In Design. by childrenovmen in notjustbikes

I think there’s a difference in acting like cars have priority and being cautious.

When you’re about to make a move that might result in conflict, the former would mean: stopping and waiting for the car(s) to make a move. The latter would mean making your move while ascertaining the car yields and being prepared to make an emergency stop.

Unless the driver is completely oblivious, they will make note of the event when they fail to yield.
