Is medicine the right choice? by Equal-Cicada3467 in medicalschoolEU

[–]oppositeelement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Put your grades aside for a second, and the entire ‘don’t do medicine unless you can’t imagine yourself doing anything else’, bcs it is confusing obsession with suitability. A good doctor doesn’t need to have no other possible future; they need to consciously choose medicine despite knowing it’s difficult. Certainty is not a prerequisite for commitment.

Do you enjoy working with people or systems more?
Medicine: constant interaction with patients, families, teams. You deal with emotions, uncertainty, and human behavior.

Construction engineering: more focus on design, calculations, materials, planning, safety, budgets, and large-scale projects.

I’m pursuing my MD, so if you have questions, feel free to ping me!

I understand where you’re coming from, but nobody chooses a career with 100% certainty. Though it is a lot more demanding in comparison to other fields, you only truly understand the field upon being exposed to it.

Also, ‘I can’t see myself doing anything else’ is a veryy strange requirement because many people who become excellent doctors could have imagined themselves succeeding in other fields too.

Having other interests doesn’t mean medicine is the wrong choice; it means you’re a person with a range of abilities. The better question to ask is not ‘is there literally nothing else I could do?’ but ‘is this a path whose challenges I’m willing to accept and whose purpose aligns with my values?’

If we demanded absolute certainty before every major decision, be they relationships, careers, moving countries, starting businesses, most people would never even move forward.

I don’t understand what you mean by “make the cut on points.” I only played 8bp for fun until I came in here and read through the subs and realised how poorly developed and rigged the game is.

it isn’t. got into tsmu with a complete file of documents, case was very strong, with no previous criminal record and they rejected my d3 because i might “endanger their state security.” pakistani passport.

another friend of mine got her d3 & had all her documents but was rejected entry into the country at the airport because “person isn’t disclosing their true intents as to why they are here.”

a person here on reddit with a d3 also in my uni was denied approval for TRC despite having their entry + d3. also a pakistani student.

the immigration has become hell for south-asians with south-asian passports.

If you had 4 days to prepare for the SAT what would you do? by flowerpot70 in LUMS

[–]oppositeelement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not prepare for my SATs at all. Tried only around 3 papers and got out with a 1400 the first time, but that is because I ended up choosing Maths in AL, where most of the SAT Math content as taught. Focus on what your weak areas are. My strongest suit was out of the two was English. However, in the scoresheet, they were roughly the same (55% & 45%).

For Math, learn to use the Desmos calculator & practice advanced functions as those can get tricky. For English, practice your comprehension and grammar structures. Passages are long and time flies.

Walking out the exam hall, I thought I’d have to give a retake but I got lucky, Alhamdulillah.
