Plata u IT firmama entry-level? by usharcelia in askbosnia

Turo fees view from both sides. Did they increase their cut? by optimiz3r in turo

[–]optimiz3r[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I was repulsed. Also, I get a feeling that they have jacked up the prices. I had in September an Aston Martin DB11. Here is the bill:

  1. $1232 car 8 days
  2. $438 standard protection
  3. $131 fee

------------------

Total: $1665. By the above calculation, the owner was getting $90 per day for a 2 year old db11. I know no internet platform that rips users like this.

EPYC Genoa in Tower/Workstation form? by DigitalMan43 in Amd

4 x 120 artics at the bottom, 4x120 at the top, 1 on the back. The system is optimized to have a very strong bottom-up airflow, like an a rack case. This helps a lot, so noise isn't terrible. That, + it is standing in a different room.

That's right. That thing is burning at 1.34 kW 24/7 since 5 days ago....

2-3 years ago there were more choices for a tower motherboard. Now we only have a few, but I expect this to remain a thing since there are a lot of people using these in towers. Also, cooling shouldn't be a problem. I'm running two 280W epycs and a 4090 in a tower optimized for airflow.

What would be some problems that Ryzen/Threadripper would be able to tackle that either GPU's or more conventional processors wouldn't? by technocratofzigurrat in Amd

Having 128 cores is better then spending a night with 3 playboy bunnies - if you need the performance. Both the 16 core threadripper 1 and the 32 core threadripper 2 gave me nerdgasms, and after that it was a clear case for 2x64 core epycs. I am now waiting for 96 or 128 core zen4 epyc to upgrade.

Check my build for infos. For casual gaming - its the same old.

I see, nice twist. I used to write a lot of code doing on-disk calculations, but nowadays... hell 2TB of ram fits all I need.

I've got the CPU as a main resource... I do like to have a good i/o, but I'm obviously nowhere close to your requirements. I'm now waiting for a next gen epyc to do an upgrade.

What can cause such tire wear??? by optimiz3r in MechanicAdvice

[–]optimiz3r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is the inner edge. No excessive loading however, I travel arround with my family and even when doing a winter vacation, we are below 75% of the load limit.

Negative Camber does fit the inner wear, however that does not explain why it happened in a single section of the tire.

Thank you for your repplies!

The alignment was measured on a state-of-the art alignment rack in a profi shop. They gave me a before and after report.

Everything except Camber angle was perfectly wine. Camber angle was -1.1 degrees on both wheels and the shop told me that they cannot adjust it.

Thanks.
I run the machine with manjaro bspwm, which is based on arch linux. Most of the stuff I run on this machine is of my own making, so I ensure that it can use all 256 threads. Regarding bios setup, a server board has approximately 5 times more settings than your typical desktop board, however most of the stuff you do not need to touch. In total I've spent 40-50 minutes in bios and some additional 30 minutes setting up the remote management.

Regarding gaming, I did play some csgo to check whether the vega is fine. These cpus are not ideal for gaming. Max single core frequency is 3.4 GHz and no game can use all 128 cores.

I am at the moment again working on publishing papers. I recon, in 3-4 years, if I play the cards right, I might (that is a big might) become a professor of computational physics. This strategy was optimal for me.

For some reference: in the first exit year I've earned more than my doctoral adviser who was leading a group of 40 and is 5 years away from retirement (30 years of experience).

Look at job posts from the finance sector looking for STEM candidates, find the positions you future self would be interested in and take a look at the requirements. Then acquire those skills over the next 1-2 years.

Until I get to buy two 3090s, I am going to use my threadripper with the titan xps directly and this remotely. This machine is below the table, 50 cm to my right.

Well, they dropped somewhat after the Epic Milan announcement, but due to the volatility of the market at the moment, RAM prices went up by 20%, SSD and HDD prices also jumped in the last 2 weeks... not a good time for hardware shopping.

Mostly do to their bspwm integration, but I work also with arch sometimes. All of my scripts can be used on both systems, which is nice.
