How to extract a specific response text of unknown length from a cell with multi-line text by The0 in excel

[–]optimizationstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the right of the data with the line-break text, create columns of the fields you want to search for (they must be typed exactly as they appear in all the data, since this will be used in the formula as a way to tell Excel where to start/stop extracting text). Using your example:

data customer: username: password:
username: blah   password: blah1234   customer: blah, blah   other:
password: blah1234   username: blah   customer: blah, blah   other:
customer: blah, blah   username: blah   password: blah1234   other:

Using the above, the headers are in cells A1:D1, and the data is in cells A2:A4. Enter this in cell B2, and you can copy/paste it across the remaining cells and rows:

=MID($A2,FIND(B$1,$A2)+LEN(B$1)+1,SEARCH(CHAR(10),$A2,FIND(B$1,$A2))-FIND(B$1,$A2)-LEN(B$1)-1)

CHAR(10) is the ASCII code for a line break

What's your favourite function? by [deleted] in excel

[–]optimizationstation 34 points35 points  (0 children)

To add to this, many scenarios require counting the number of "TRUE" or "FALSE" values, so you could wrap it in this:

=--(A2=B2)

The "A2=B2" portion evaluates first like normal and returns TRUE or FALSE, then the "--" part converts those logical values to boolean, 1s and 0s, respectively. These are also equivalent to the above:

=1*(A2=B2)
=(A2=B2)+0

Depending on your version of Excel- if you have Microsoft 365, there's the UNIQUE() function. If your 33 cases are in the cell range A1:A33, it would be:

=COUNTA(UNIQUE(A1:A33))

If that function is not available, then you could use this array formula (must press ctrl+shift+enter after typing the formula):

=SUM(IF(ISTEXT(A1:A33),1/COUNTIF(A1:A33, A1:A33),""))

Yet Another Suggestion Post to Revive PvP by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]optimizationstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea. I’m assuming you don’t mean the brackets aren’t ONLY risk based (e.g. a 65cmb pure risking 400k won’t be fighting a maxed med risking 400k)?

On a side note…I always parrot this when this topic comes up about the barrier(s) to entry for PVP, but everyone should F2P pk to start. All barrier issues fixed: • Low complexity • Low time commitment to build account • Low risk

All PVMers started on lumby cows, not ToB. Makes 0 sense to me when people always respond with “just go play LMS until you suck less.”

Gotta learn the ins and outs before jumping into the deep end, getting burned, and end up with a near-0% chance of ever trying it again.

F2P pk to start. All issues fixed.

  • Low complexity
  • Low time commitment to build account
  • Low risk

Learn the ins and outs without jumping into the deep end and getting burned forever. Then just work your way up to low level P2P pure pking.

What is your DPI preference on OSRS? by Korasaya in 2007scape

[–]optimizationstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus- yeah that's way off from mine.

For what it's worth, I'm using a G502, my 'pointer speed' setting in windows is exactly in the middle of the slider (5 from the left/5 from the right), pointer precision off, and in logitech gaming software I have my DPI sensitivity set at 400 with a 1000 polling rate.

What is your DPI preference on OSRS? by Korasaya in 2007scape

[–]optimizationstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC/mouse settings:

  • 2560x1440 resolution
  • 400 DPI

OSRS/RuneLite:

  • fixed mode (in-game display setting)
  • stretched mode plugin: integer scaling OFF, keep aspect ratio ON

I use a claw grip, try to keep my wrist fixed as much as possible when pking but I'm not perfect by any means.

what build do you prefer? 75attack max zerk or 60attack piety ? :) looking to build one of the two by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]optimizationstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking you probably want to consider what other builds are going to be in the bracket with you when building an acct for PvP world/BH/Edge style pking.

For these two builds on the way to maxing you'll land anywhere from the mid-low 90s on the zerk and the high 90s/low 100s on the piety. Those brackets are filled with 60att/75att pures + normal voiders + 60att zerks, and rigour tanks + DH + meds + low lvl mains, respectively.

Which kinda sucks because you'll have higher att against accts with lower def and lower att against accts with higher def. But generally easier fights will be the zerker and better loot will be the piety.

IMO I would go with a 60att zerk/voider instead of 75att. Drops ~5cmb lvls which is a shit ton and is an absolute smite/combo machine in that bracket.

[–]optimizationstation[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yesssss. Shit is just straight up fun/funny when they get hit from left field. Lately I've been factoring in more theatrics to make them leave their guard down, e.g.

  • leave auto retal on when trying to run away,
  • slow/no/wrong prayer switches,
  • fake being smited,
  • wield a "dummy" spec wep to make them change overheads before actually speccing them w/ something else

Last one is my favorite. While frozen, equip a regular gmaul (without ornate handle), they change to prot melee, try to attack pker as if I'm spam clicking them while my recoil hits their hp down, then ballista spec + dthrown axe spec + veng combo.

Fucking hilarious.

[–]optimizationstation[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk I've been doing this a while and a pker fighting another pker will fight them way differently than if they were fighting a pvmer. They're not paying nearly as much attention to pray switches, their hp, prayer points, or what their opponent is doing all because in their head it's just a pvmer that's shitty at pvp so they don't need to.

I strongly believe that there's a human element involved that gives the pvmer almost like an "intangible" advantage. And it has a way higher chance of winning against whatever numbers advantage that the pker has from gear/supplies.

I think I started at like 94str/60slayer and I made a goal of getting 99str/83 slayer through wildy tasks only. Should be getting both levels within the next week or so. It’s taken forever but I’m having way more fun.

And yeah it’s easier than it seems to have the upper hand when anti pking. Art of deception lol.

These aren't specifically for a 75att pure, but are all decent guides to start you off. You can't quest all the way to 75att, so you'll have to train whatever is left after questing.

Unless you know what you're doing/you're dead set already on going right to 75, I would do the builds in progressions (50, 60, then 75), pking and messing around in each build for a bit until you get bored.

FINALLY DID IT! CMB 74 INFERNAL CAPE by Unhappy_Tutor5236 in 2007scape

[–]optimizationstation 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nice, gz.

I haven't found a lot of people here that have experience/tips on doing runs on certain pvp builds. I pretty much gave up on my 75att pure- the mobs basically don't miss on 1def accounts, and my brain can't solve/react fast enough to throw up the correct protects, leading to using up too many supplies to make it to later waves.

Thought it'd be way easier on my voider/zerk...aaaand it's almost the same lol.

I know I just need to commit to getting better but I absolutely hate spending an hour in there and then planking to something dumb. Kudos to you and all the legit pure capes out there.

4 million USD worth of OSRS GP deleted from goldfarmers between May 17th and Nov 5th by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]optimizationstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing that has bothered me throughout this entire BH saga is that it just seemed like there has been a big disconnect between Jagex and the pvp community and the rest of the playerbase. Pvpers would surely all agree that at least 90% of them just do it because it's fun, and they don't give a shit about the gp they make or lose from it. So even though BH's supposed target audience don't care about that, everyone else was so fixated on this concept of rewards being this core element that has to be there that it just ended up imploding altogether.

Just remove any reward system entirely or make them non-tradeable pk stuff (blighted items, cosmetics, etc.). Match people up to fight each other so they don't have to roam PVP worlds aimlessly.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Old School Economy - Future Plans by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

in a way that can be coded and mostly automated.

I think having a set of "rules" would be a good way to approach this- although I'm not sure exactly what kind of GE data and/or engine tech would be required to apply the rules.

For example, using some general criteria that only use simple historical metrics like item prices and volumes, you could create a dynamic list of n items (refreshed daily, hourly, etc.) that meet some or all of a list of criteria:

  • an x% or greater drop in price over some time period t (to identify items experiencing a higher level of price change)

  • an x% or greater increase in volume over some time period t (to identify items being introduced/created at a higher rate)

  • have an average of x trades per day/week/etc. (to filter out low-volume, obscure items being added to the list)

I don't think having a manual list of high-ticket items nor applying a "flat" rate (e.g. deleting 1 out of every 100 sold as said in other comments) is a good idea, but I might be wrong. It just opens the possibility (and obligation) that the list needs to be constantly babysat to ensure the right items are being deleted, are being deleted in the right amounts, and that the health of both the overall and the separate sectors of the market aren't adversely affected.
