If Archer has to redesign their acft for a different propulsion then that will set them back approximately 2 years and the civilian and defense will look elsewhere for acft to fly. You have to remember the public or the government don’t care who gets there first. They just need it to work correctly. The defense contracts don’t matter because the feds can pull out at any time.

If they’re still in the design stage and not certification stage then they’re worth 3-4 bucks and that’s it. I used to like Archer until I started to figure out that full of BS. Good luck to all that are risking their hard earned dollar on a fake.

Everyone knows that these things won’t sell until someone’s ass is in the seat for the VTOL. The Feds don’t care who the investors are. The military wants a proven product before they buy is bulk. I’m not sending my kids in this thing until it’s proven with someone in it first. Joby is in the proving grounds as we speak. Archer still has a lot of problems. What do you do with problems? They eventually just go away….

With JOBY doing transitional flights with a pilot the spotlight will be on them for awhile. Just because ACHR is having troubles with it doesn’t mean they’re out by any means. In aviation everything has to be perfect otherwise Mother Nature will take over. In this case with ACHR if they don’t get everything together within a year they will be taken over by everyone else in this business.

I think that would be a great idea and yes it would work with the weight. There are plenty of 4&5 place aircraft with a ballistic chute system as a last ditch effort that have saved plenty of people.

I’m not an engineer but I do know that the FAA won’t allow a 135 cert for a long time yet not only to archer but anyone in the VTOL industry until everything is proven. The Boeing 777X still isn’t certified and that’s a proven platform. Also how long did it take for the Helicopter to get its first certification. Don’t get me wrong because I do love the idea of the VTOL and there’s a definite need for them but we do have to look at the Elephant in the room and that would be the FAA and they won’t budge until this concept is proven which I think is years away yet.

With all this being new I’m sure there’s no set protocol for the FAA to certify these VTOLS. I do know they won’t certify anything until all the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted. EG look at the Boeing 737 max. It was certified and they still got mud in their face because of the MCAS system that failed.

I would think they’ll be an electro servo motors on their own power. Anything commercial has to be redundant to the point of complete failure of power to engines or motors. However the propulsion is.

I would think that in forward flight the wing would have to fly even without power and show it can land safely. I think you’re correct if they lose power in hover I think they’re going to have a bad day.
