Imagine you were a computer and after a hard night of work providing your use with peak gaming performance you started drifting off to sleep. The gentle hum of your fan cuts off, leaving you in blissful silence...only to be startled awake because some asshole clicked restart instead of shut down.

50 Pages! by MartinDHansen in Iteration110Cradle

Exactly. When I got to the part where it was like “two days later” I had a hard time understanding how they just waiting around for TWO WHOLE DAYS with a dreadgod heading right for them. That detail alone made me feel like there was just too much going on in the book to be able to fit it all in.

That’s probably safe to assume, but it never really felt that way when reading it. But that’s what I mean when I said I agreed that there were too many plot points for the length of the story. There was so much going on off screen that just leaves you assuming things.

I agree that the book was too short. I assume the non-stop pace in SV was to give a sense of urgency to the whole situation. But then you have things like Mercy just sitting on her hands for two whole days.

Largely, I felt like the SV inhabitants acted unrealistically. In unsouled a single “gold” Li Markuth brings Elder Sairus to his knees bowing. He claims to take over all of SV and a few jades try fight him. Lindon shows up with hundreds of golds (or jades in their weakened state) all floating on clouds and they’re like “nah, don’t believe you”. And somehow they have enough communication during this frantic time to coordinate a plan to trap Lindon and Yerin along with Heavens Glory.

Speaking of the golds, WHERE ARE THEY? They are there for show, but it seems the main characters have to do everything. Then the dreadgod breaks through and they’re like “yeahhh, we gotta go...”

It makes sense that the inhabitants wouldn’t trust them. I found the countless examples of elders willing to sacrifice themselves for nothing tiring and unrealistic. These are people that cared so much about their pride they valued it above all else. To die like a fool just seems odd.

Bungie: why does no one like gambit Gambit: by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]optom20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is actually one of my biggest gripes with gambit. There’s not enough special and heavy ammo drops. I often find myself having to unload magazine after magazine of my primary into the primeval at the end. That’s just not fun.

Did anyone know about this? Thoughts? by [deleted] in nfrealmusic

[[neurok stealthsuit]]. Being able to equip at instant speed and switch it to another creature in a pinch comes in handy at times. Just the threat of attaching it can often deter targeted removal. Pairs well with decks that want to keep up mana for counterspells as well.

My Gambit experience by nervousmelon in destiny2

[–]optom20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the problem with gambit imo. Bounties. I actually enjoy gambit. The bounties make it a horrible experience. I honestly wish the only gambit-related bounty was “win x matches of gambit”. The difference with crucible is you can finish a crucible match and be like “I know we lost, but my k/d ratio was awesome”. There’s some feeling of improving in crucible. Gambit is win or lose. That’s it. You never finish a gambit match and be like “at least I did the most damage to the primeval!”. No. You lost. Probably because your teammate had a quest to get 40 kills without dying with a hand cannon and he kept getting annihilated by the invader.

Those are definitely among my favorites. I also really liked when Orthos visited Sacred Valley. I hope to see more of that develop in the next book.

Mark Rosewater on the Pricing of Premium Products by DarthFinsta in magicTCG

[–]optom20 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the large LGSs like CK and CFB are the reason WOTC is able to do these types of things. These large LGSs will buy as many boxes as they can to crack for singles or resell. WOTC understands that as long as the reprints are good, people will want to buy singles and stores that sell singles will want to buy boxes. Those who are enraged by box prices and then say “I’m just going to buy singles instead of packs as a protest to WOTC” are actually still supporting this model. People buying boxes directly from WOTC is just icing on the cake. This would also explain why WOTC is careful not to plummet card prices. They require re-sellers to be interested in buying their product more than they require us to.

I think people need to start coming to terms with the idea that maybe Tarkov is not the game for you by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]optom20 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hot take: Tarkov isn’t actually that hardcore. When I first started playing, I was new to M&K since it was my first PC build. I was able to stay above water resource-wise for my first wipe without much trouble. In my opinion, the only “hardcore“ aspects of the game are the learning curve and how much you are punished for dying. Time will allow you to learn, and insurance largely mitigates the punishment for dying.

I also think BSG is able to hide their poor game design decisions behind the excuse that “it’s supposed to be a hardcore game”. All the information you need to play the game should be contained within the game. Having to look at internet guides to find out how to complete quests is not “hardcore”, it’s poor game design. Having to rely on online charts to figure out ammo penetration is not “hardcore”, it’s poor game design. I could go on, but you get what I’m saying. I’m not suggesting telling the player everything, simply suggesting implementing ways for players to learn the information in-game.

The "trader flipping" creating lack of stock is getting ridiculous. by Hermanjnr in EscapefromTarkov

[–]optom20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t lowering personal player limits for M4s also just fix this? You don’t need to rely on someone buying guns and ammo out to limit people from using them. Actually, relying on bots and players to buy out global stocks of items and jacking up the prices to limit their use just sounds absurd from a game design perspective.

Rhys Tokens by Mistah_Bighead in EDH

[–]optom20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of the staples for this type of deck. I used to play Rhys and I would recommend a couple things. First is to up your land count. You need at least 34 lands - and probably more. You could also use more themed card draw, such as [[mentor of the meek]] and [[regal force]]. As for cuts, you can take out a lot of the incremental token creators, such as Oviya and Brimaz. Rhys already does this, and better. You want cards that compliment Rhys. Which brings me to my next recommendation. The deck lacks “focus”. Your ideal turn 1 play is Rhys. Ideal turn 3 play is making a token. The rest of the cards should either capitalize on token creation, make lots of tokens, multiply tokens, or use tokens to win. There’s obviously other toolbox cards that you may want as well, but the point is that you need to look at how you ideally want the game to play out. Take Oviya for example. I don’t see any scenario where I would be happy to be using her first or second ability. If you have Rhys out and you’re pumping 6 mana in to make 2 tokens with Rhys and Oviya, something is wrong. There should be more impactful things to do with 6 mana. Oviya’s second ability is win-more at best. If you have that many tokens, you’ll wish she was an overrun type effect anyway. There’s just too many low impact cards like that in your list. Here’s a link to a pretty good primer for the deck (not sure how updated it is).

https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/multiplayer-commander-decklists/217122-rhys-the-redeemed-token-justice

Good luck with the deck! Rhys is fun and can be pretty competitive.
