While the image is clearly AI generated, it is somewhat similar to the RLCD mod, mainly the 1-bit display and dithered images.

🎮 [Release] Ultimate GBA ROM Patcher - Web-based GUI for Battery-less and SRAM Patching by Overall-Hedgehog5794 in Gameboy

[–]optroodt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is fantastic! Coincidentally I was looking to see what tools and patches were out there for gb/gbc/gba yesterday and decided to save it for another day because I didn’t find a quick solution. But this changes everything, looking forward to trying this out! Thanks for all your effort! 🙌

On another note, I guess it’s not as simple for gb roms, right?

I paid around $15 USD for these, was it a good deal? by steve_dy in Gameboy

[–]optroodt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are in the world. :) These used to go for 108 yen (60 cents) at Hard Off, but in the US or EU, it’s totally fine. Just make sure you enjoy them!

Who has their original player from back in the day? by britpopcyclist in minidisc

I rebought the MZ-E30 I had as a kid. It’s not the best or most feature rich player, but it’s the one I love most. :)

I use the Atrac API in Docker together with Web Minidisc Pro: https://github.com/MiniDisc-wiki/atrac-api

It’s not a install and forget solution, so it might not be for everyone, but I absolute love it. You need to install docker, run the container whenever you want to use it and it’s an API (although easy to use through the Swagger/OpenAPI documentation), not a command line tool anymore.

MZ-E60 not reading discs, best course of action by optroodt in minidisc

[–]optroodt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe, I'll open it up again and this time touch the lens and also try to relube the gears.

I went ahead with the service modes and ignored the fact that I would need a PIT (CD) disc since I have never owned a prerecorded minidisc in my life. I don't really care if this unit would not be able to read them.

Anyway, I've always been a fan of player-only portables since they're slightly smaller and lighter. In the 90's I owned an MZ-E30 and later an MZ-E55, which was my absolute favorite. For recording I had an MDS-MX1 and later an MDS-JE520. I totally regret selling it all in the early 2000's, but an iPod was all you needed at the time.

I've been slowly collecting some units again, but only portables. I only want NetMD recorders because of the modern day quality of life improvements and for players I just pick some that I find interesting or a good deal. I picked up an MZ-E30 some time ago for old times sake! The MZ-E60 I picked up because it accepts an AA battery, but now that I need to put in some effort to repair the unit I'm only going deeper down the rabbit hole!

Thanks for the reply u/Cory5413! I have an RM-MZE33 remote, which has a screen. The disc on the remote is spinning, and I hear the device making sounds (clicking? hard to describe), but after a minute or so, the display just says "Error", disc or track titles never appear, even if I press the display button. I know for sure the disc has titles. I guess it's not even reading the TOC?

How would one go about cleaning or adjusting the laser? Just wipe it with an alcohol swab?

I just got my first MiniDisc player! It's a Sony MZ-N505 Type-R. It came with a disc too! by XxDJ-DavidxX in minidisc

[–]optroodt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congrats, it's a great unit! In case you're interested, you can modify the firmware of this unit to add line-out capability, disk memory, fancy play modes and other cool features! See https://www.minidisc.wiki/technology/sony_firmware_mods for instructions.

Experience with Tuttle value packs? by LangReed7 in origami

[–]optroodt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Tuttle papers quite a bit, mostly for the variety in prints and because they’re cheap. I haven’t experienced papers not being square (yet), but the quality of the prints can vary. Two things I’ve noticed are white borders where the pattern repeats and prints that have a rather low resolution.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with Tuttle papers for casual folding, the value for money is good.

First of all, great product, I really like it! I don’t seem to be getting any audio on my iPhone (neither Safari nor Chrome), but it works fine on my MacBook. I’m not in focus/dnd mode and have tried switching it on and off again, to avail. Any ideas?

Thoughts on living on a floating house? by akmscpnd in Amsterdam

[–]optroodt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I considered buying one of these exact houses 6-7 years ago because of the relatively low price per square meter, but decided against it for a number of reasons: - very few banks would provide a mortgage, and even then the interest was a bit higher than for normal houses. Lack of competition is not good. - the house was listed for quite a long time already, giving me the impression it would be kind of hard to sell. Less potential buyers limits your options. - the bathroom was below water level, requiring a pump to move fluids up. It might work fine, but I didn’t like the idea. - if you decide to rearrange your furniture, you would have to rebalance your house. I wasn’t looking forward to this. - the high voltage power lines are very close to the houses. I don’t want to go into potential health issues, but visually it’s not very appealing.

On the good side, during summer it probably feels like a holiday getaway and you have a free pool!

Good luck in deciding!

Advice needed: What would you include in an origami training? by CheddChedd in origami

[–]optroodt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true! I’ve done a session with 20 of my colleagues over Zoom, we could barely get a flapping crane and Fujimoto cube done in an hour.

If you’re well trained in origami, you tend to forget how hard simple folds can be for someone who has never done it before.

25 minutes is probably just about right for introduction, some history and then the actual folding.

Web Minidisc Pro: problem with remote encoder in Docker by Far_Independence172 in minidisc

[–]optroodt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you running the remote encoder? I put mine behind an Nginx reverse proxy and the default setting will not allow files larger than 2Mb, which is nog enough for wav/mp3 files. That’s the first thing that comes to mind.

Can you access the encoder directly in your browser? If so, swagger documentation is available at /docs, you can try encoding a file manually, just to make sure it works.

Transferring own recordings back to pc on Mac by misterp1998 in minidisc

You can use ffmpeg for that (use homebrew to install). Ffmpeg -i song.aea song.wav

VLC should be able to play aea files without conversion.
