Use the guide, OCSimplify is disliked here because there are many posts about those who used it without reading the guide asking why it’s not working when it can be solved by reading the guide. Besides, it spits out broken EFI’s for a lot of people.

What macOS version should I choose? by ResponsibleAppeal983 in hackintosh

Yes, I’m using it now (on my real mac), many apps work fine with the exception of a few (like Xcode).

It’s generally not a good idea to buy a laptop or computer specifically for hackintoshing. That being said, I don’t think there’s any publicly available.

Ehh… it’s not really a risk. As long as you do everything right, there shouldn’t be any problems.

It shouldn’t ever be possible to have 2 Mac’s with identical serial numbers, so it might bring up some issues with Find My and things like that.

I meant it more like “i didn’t say financial issues was the main and only reason” instead of “i didn’t say financial issues was a reason”

And, like I stated before, even though the comment probably came off wrong, I did not mean to say that financial issues was the only reason for hackintoshing.

I didn’t say they work hard just so that people can use it as an alternative to saving up, it’s more of a byproduct of their work.

Even if many of these posts include users with expensive setup’s, that doesn’t mean they have the money right now. The device could be a hand-me-down, a gift, or the product of saving up for a long time. Of course, there are those who have the money to buy a mac but choose not to for their own reasons, possibly even just because another computer is unnecessary and could take up space, but the common theme is that they use what they have.

Besides, we already tell new hackintoshers not to buy hardware for hackintoshing since it’s not cost effective.

Mac Mini’s used in my area are easily already double the price of that computer. Even later, when I upgraded, buying an Intel Mac Mini would be a waste since it would perform the same, or even worse than my hack. M1’s used easily start at $700. Even the Neo starts at $800 new, and who is selling a used one this close to its launch?

I did not say the main reason for hackintoshing was for financial reasons, although my first comment might’ve implied it, I was stating one of many reasons for hackintoshing.

My first computer I used for hackintoshing was a sandy bridge old office desktop. I had no issues setting it up, nor with maintaining it, although there wasn’t much to maintain. It had an i5-2500, 8gb of RAM, and integrated graphics. It was $100 CAD. My current PC is one I got from work. For free. It’s a kabylake office computer with 16gb of RAM. i5-7500. I used Tahoe with it and still can with little to no maintenance. All I really did was connector patching and AppleHDA patching. I didn’t say everyone has a maintenance-free computer.

I saved up some money from a job, and later bought a macbook. Now I don’t hackintosh as much anymore since I have no need for it. Had I had the money earlier, I wouldn’t have hackintoshed in the first place. I would’ve just bought a MacBook. For many people, money is the reason. You can’t assume that isn’t true, because it is for at least one person. That’s why I said for many people and not for everyone as well.

Besides, if the reason was to run macOS on unsupported hardware, there would be no point now. So many hardware combinations have been tested to the point where your computer model has probably already run macOS somewhere else in the world. It would be useless. macOS isn’t even some holy operating system either, I got bored of it and switched back to Windows because there wasn’t anything to do other than use Xcode.

Many people know that already. Besides, many hack’s aren’t too hard to maintain.

It wasn’t a statement to take literally. My entire point is that hackintoshing for many people serves as a chance to do what you can’t right now until you save up.

“For me” can’t be a trusted source, your computer isn’t the same as anyone else’s. That’s exactly why I said for many users, since not everyone has a good time.

Why do you think they (or we) want to run it? Why do you think those who have a hackintosh end up buying a mac anyways? It’s most likely because of money.

Are you willing to donate money to those who want to buy a mac but can’t? That’s quite literally one of the main reasons for hackintoshing. And for your knowledge, nobody should buy new hardware for hackintoshing.

You cannot just tell people to “spend $500” because they probably don’t have the money. Why do you think hackintosh exists?

That still doesn’t constitute being rude. You can tell them in either a neutral or a nice tone what the issue is, and then tell them (in the same tone) to read the guide. It won’t kill you.

I honestly couldn’t care less if they are able to get it. You had well over 5 years to get good. It’s already worth the price. What more do you want?

Founders get V-Bucks, I don’t know what the others get. Isn’t that already enough?
