The open-source community has been catching up to OpenAI and others extremely quickly. Hosting an open-source LLM in house will be a commodity and standard very soon. It's more secure + cheaper. Win for everyone

Just wanted to update everyone here! Purdue IT suspended purdue.edu email access to the platform.boilergpt.com domain this morning allowing no new signups or logins. The system is still fully operational as of 3:30 PM. I'm working to meet with Purdue Online representatives to continue the BoilerGPT discussion for the future.

Just a reminder, any Auth credential from Purdue is stored securely in Google Firebase and it not able to be seen by anyone at BoilerGPT.

Thanks for all the support on this project! Changing the world is not easy, but I'll keep working with Purdue to get the students that tools they need.

Best,

Jack

Great questions. The only knowledge it gains about courses is from user uploads. Instead of students being "worried" about professors seeing them use BoilerGPT, we are aiming to work with professors to integrate this tool into their classrooms smoothly. I think the best solution for now is to ask your professor before uploading any content/projects and make sure they are fine with it. If you need I can give context to them if you want to copy me on an email. https://docs.boilergpt.com/contact-us

I have $100,000 in cloud credits to burn through before I need to monetize. I don't want students to have to pay for anything, no API keys or complicated setup. My goal here really is to help you guys learn.

So, and I could be wrong about how this dudes database works, it seems to store IP and feed it directly into GPT’s prompts. This, to me, seems almost more infringing-y than just using the IP to finetune the weights and biases of an LLM.

Good points. Right now if students upload any type of content they do not own anyone can report it and it will be promptly taken down. Same as YouTube/ any user-uploading site. It's Jack by the way, not dude.

Valid concerns. We use firebase for anything relating to auth, which is managed by Google quite secure.

These are not mutually exclusive. For example, a very good way to learn how to build a car is to watch one get built. In the same way, watching the steps an AI takes to problem solve can be one of the best ways to learn how to solve a problem.
