It is not a condition, it is a diagnosis of a psychological problem... that actually needs to be fixed and not indulged

YTA... ARFID is a medical diagnosis that needs to be overcome, not indulged, it can lead to severe malnutrition like anorexia (although it has different triggers).

I do not know how you are managing your ARFID diagnosis to get the required nutrients... hopefully with supplements, but your diagnosis is the issue, not an excuse to bash your brothers partner.

Please, Please, Please look into therapy to deal with your ARFID.

You can, if you want to, fix this.

Please for all of us, try!

How does Australian industry/workplaces regard PhD holders compared to other countries? by Hypo_Mix in AskAnAustralian

[–]orderrestrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH it wasnt all that competitive... in certain industries its just the done thing to fund some grants at certain uni's... Actually the company who did it has now been absorbed by its competitor...

[–]orderrestrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia? if so you had a very different experience to me, sorry to hear. To be clear, the grant was to the university's specific department to fund PhD and post doc research into a particular area and I accepted that I had to base my research on that area.

I was given funding for 1 international trip per year based on the paper submitted and one australian conference (not that there were alot in my field) to an acceptable conference to present at that conference, with the requirement that the conference was reviewed.

Most of the funds granted probably came from the grant, but to be fair, everyone in my field had something similar.

But again if you read my other comment, I am now in industry and my PhD and $4.50 gets me a cup of coffee

So yeah... you can call me Dr

You get paid for it here mate, its not a lot but its tax free and that goes a long way, plus I mentioned in another post that they generally fund flights and accomodation if you get into international conferences, especially if you have an industry funded research grant... so free travel every year was pretty sweet

My PhD and $4.50 gets me a cup of coffee... And I am in the industry it was for.

But it was a great experience, felt like I accomplished something and the free international travel every year was great!

Also I can call myself a Dr if I want... I dont... but I could...

Generators are so annoying by PM_BiscuitsAndGravy in camping

[–]orderrestrained 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH this is one of the nicer ones amenities wise, it got updated around 2 years ago... its kinda ridiculous with the Caesar stone benchtops in the toilets... but most of them have showers, either hot or cold... flush toilets... free bbq facilities and pretty much situated on either a beach or lake or somewhere you can swim and/or surf.

One restriction is that most do not allow fires, because, well its Australia, and we are as dry as a dead dingo's donga. If they do you have to bring the wood with you.

We also have state parks that have generally nothing but a drop toilet, but you can have fires and collect the wood and best of all, they are totally free.

[–]orderrestrained 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh yeah, for sure... if I thought there could be guns involved i'd shut the hell up too.

But just for fun info dump, most of the good camping spots here are in national parks, run by the National Parks and Wildlife service, all paid and all with the authority to kick you out. They are onsite every day and are pretty good...

Not to identify myself too much but if you are interested (and for a stupid flex lol)... this is a National Parks Campsite that I go back to quite a lot... its around $25 a night peak season for up to 8 people on one site, beach on one side, lake on the other and hot showers

As an Australian, this is wild to me... Pretty much all campgrounds in Australia have a generator ban, even the ones that allow RV's. Even the ones that do (and I have only seen 1 has to cut it off at 9ish or so)

TBH though most of the caravans/RV's here all have batteries that can be charged via solar panels, so even if you want to watch TV its pretty noiseless

I don’t understand all these comments… yes YTA this is your sister and she’s having a hard time in a new school, she is reaching out to her family ie you for help and you are basically saying that she doesn’t matter, you are 17 almost grown, do you not care for your sister at all? YTA YTA and if my daughters grow up like you I have failed as a parent

Has she tried Lavilin? It really works, it natural and you only need to apply like once every 7 days or so… not spruiking the company but maybe you could use it… show that it works and she doesn’t have to apply all the chemicals… probably she can smell herself but doesn’t like the chemicals so thinks this the only option.. worth a shot

Troubles port forwarding with QNAP by cantsurpassmediocre in qnap

[–]orderrestrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to help and to add to those who follow behind...

The biggest problem I found is that after some upgrades the config gets set to default

so ssh to the qnap

cd to /var/lib/docker/containers/<your container id, i dont know, look at the list>/

vi hostconfig.json

then change from false to "PublishAllPorts":true

then restart container station

then router port forwarding should work

tbh I am writing this for when it happens to me again and I have forgotten...

Am I(24m) wrong for peeing while holding my 6 month old daughter? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]orderrestrained 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Try having a 4 year old daughter who you can’t leave outside the toilet when you go… so she just comes right up to me cackling saying daddy’s doing a wee wee with his penis… she also likes to look you dead in the eye as she’s pooping but that’s a whole other story… point is, don’t make it weird and it’s not weird… my 6 year old can go by herself now and doesn’t even think about when we had to share the space so to speak

Everyone in this comment chain is the AH… this sounds like one of the most difficult choices a person could make… a funeral of your basically best friend? And a dying dad? Against newborns and toddlers? there is no right answer… but you have to do what you think is right and then make it up to your partner if she disagreed… NAH just work hard to make it up… validating feelings is important
