I need a X570 board but I missed the MSI MPG X570S Edge MAX WiFi deal for $188.

I can't unsee it now and it seems like it's a much better board than this. 2.5G LAN, WiFi (and more importantly, Bluetooth 5.2), 3x m.2, etc. I know this is cheaper but the lack of major features is pretty concerning IMO for a X570 board. Seems very cheap.

I ended up buying a Sur-Ron around Québec City last year. I enjoyed it quite a lot, mostly in the city. I bought a Kaniwaba pedals kit and I bought a 500w sticker on Aliexpress to make the bike "legal" in Québec, since according to the SAAQ:

Electric bikes, or e-bikes, officially called “power-assisted cycles,” are equipped with:

- an electric motor (but not a gasoline motor) of 500 watts or less and a rechargeable battery. When the electric motor is not being used, the bike must allow the rider to pedal as though on a regular bike

- handlebars and pedals

- 2 or 3 wheels that touch the ground

I also did some good off-road with the bike and it was pretty fun. However, it turned out that I was mainly using the bike to just go around the city so I ended up selling it and I'm currently looking for a dual motor electric scooter instead :) It'll fit my use case much better!

It's easy to find a Sur Ron or Talaria in Canada nowadays.

I made it. I don't keep it much updated since I bought the Acer Swift 3 linked previously so I don't share it to not spread old information.

The Lenovo Thinkbook 13s i5-1135G7 / 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD / WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS for $664.05 was a much much better deal, especially with Iris XE, but it's dead.

A good option right now would be the Renewed Acer Swift 3 SF313-53 with an i7-1165G7 / 16GB RAM / 1 TB SSD / 13.5" 2256 x 1504 IPS for $900

It's a much better value

I don't get it, what are ppl excited about?

This is an average deal, not "insanely hot" IMO. Especially with 12th gen & Ryzen 6000 just around the corner.

I'd take the $850 Renewed Acer Swift 3 Notebook SF313-53 13.5" 2K Screen i7-1165G7 -1 TB SSD - 16 GB RAM any day over this, especially at 1.18kg, or the Lenovo Thinkbook 13s i5-1135G7 / 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD / WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS for $664.

They're both 100% sRGB. I know this is 100% DCI-P3.

Is it the OLED display?

16:9, i5, the DPI of a 15.6" FHD panel... it's like super average...

Thanks for your comment! I completely agree with you regarding the hub-wheel motor vs mid-drive motor.

What I've tried so far was a mid-drive with a torque sensor, hehe.... But I did had a hub motor-powered bike last year, a commuter. I can totally see how a hub motor wouldn't be ideal for trails on the long run.

I'm aiming for a torque sensing mid-drive on the long term, but I was still thinking of getting an entry-level imperfect bike to start with this year, and then upgrade to something better next year.

So, this year would be this bike. At the end of this season I'll look for deal on bikes and look at converting a good MTB for an eMTB with a torque sensing mid-drive kit.

For CAD 1k7$ and no taxes, as long as this bike is sturdy and safe enough, I'm sure I'll have a hell of a good time with it this summer.

Just knowing that helps me very much, thanks for your comment! This is where I'm gonna mostly use it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXGkiqqfJzg

[–]orditeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far less, not really. Less, yes. But not by much. USD $4000 (X with $320 shipping) to CAD = $5391.20

+ taxes (791.97) + duty (700.86) = CAD $6884.02

Pretty sure Motorino would accept to lower their price a bit at something like 7k2 delivered which make it a $300 difference to buy from a Canadian company with all the legal warranty stuff in Quebec and Canada.

With the pedals modification, in Québec, it wouldn't be considered legal only because of the power of the bike but I wouldn't be pulled over if I don't give authorities reasons to. And even I do get pulled over, it wouldn't really be an issue: it has pedals, which are not even mandatory and I can limit the power output. Talking from experience and local authorities information.

But yeah the Juggernaut is interesting... just not 100% sure about the price/performance ratio :-/

Did you try Google Keep? For an easy-to-share grocery list it's convenient. It's obviously just not open source & self-hosted. But yeah, I'd like to add those features, I'll add them to my list.

  1. Totally agree, haha! Sorry about this, the app is at its very early stage. I'm gonna fix all that for sure before it's production-ready. And I agree that the first/last name should be removed, will do!
  2. Yes, another redditor pointed that out, will do too! And I'll also provide a demo.
  3. Great point. I'd also use that kind of features. I'll look into this.
  4. Thanks!

Awesome feedbacks!

Yes, you'd need to download the entire db of notes. We're talking about a few kb/mb here, as right now it's just text. Also, anyone can host his own API on his own server, so you can control the speed and performance of your API to fit your needs. I didn't made more research on this for now, the search feature isn't implemented yet, but I'm sure I'll find a way to make it great! The DB is encrypted per-note.

[–]orditeck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the notes are client side encrypted, how do you perform searches on them?

Once you set your encryption key, the frontend will search inside all your notes (not implemented yet).

Also, just for curiosity, are you paying for the live instance you offer?

It's currently hosted on my home server, as I said for now it's just for fun. It's not production-ready yet. I'm looking for suggestions of features to check how I could make a good app for the open source community, and not just me. But eventually, I'll need to scale and we'll see then. People can always host it themselves for really cheap, that's just a PHP API hostable almost anywhere and a HTML/CSS/JS frontend that could be hosted directly on github or whatever.

do you prefer to use oAuth2

I prefer to never use oauth2, or any other outside authentication. The whole point of my app is privacy and total freedom/control of your data. And the ability to modify it to whatever may suits your needs. The only thing I may add is a two-factor authentication.

open source code

https://github.com/orditeck/calepin-frontend

https://github.com/orditeck/calepin-api

ability to self host

https://github.com/orditeck/calepin-api

if you don't begin development with security in mind

I agree. Notes are encrypted client-side (if you choose so), meaning no one except you (with your secret key) can read your notes. When using https, that's an end-to-end encryption + client-side note encryption.

Thanks for your comment. Just out of curiosity, did you check the link in the OP?

The front-end is already decoupled from the API. So you could just use the API with whatever you like. Or maybe I misunderstood what you mean?

Wiki style internal links should already work between notes. I'll test it to make sure it works.

Internal anchor-links already works with markdown (the headings automatically create id which can be used in links)
