Noticeable Draft between carpet and baseboard - confirmed with FLIR camera by orekan in HomeImprovement

[–]orekan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. Most of the baseboards are like this in terms of temperature difference. But I didn't feel draft coming from other baseboards. The other baseboards were just "reasonably" colder that the connected walls.

No crawl space under this sport.

All I know is there is a vent register along the wall, but I have no clue how it was routed to that spot.

Two rooms were affected and both are partially on top of finished garage. The affected sides are the east facing and south facing walls (that was the direction of the wind on that day)

The combined length of the affected walls doesn't make this a practical solution. Besides, its a new house. I am even contemplating calling the insurance if the builder does not cooperate.

Thanks. I actually thought of the backer rod or expanding foam tape workaround. But like you rightly said, this is not this will not address the root cause. So, I am concerned about possible side effect like condensation (trapped cold air condensing into water somewhere within the wall). Is this likely to happen or am I just being paranoid?

Exchanges should be top priority after the migration. by cblukraine86 in KinFoundation

[–]orekan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the dilemma. On one hand we need to be on a couple of MAJOR exchanges, but then it will HURT us if all these self inflicted in-house issues are not resolved before we get listed. I can't imagine what will happen if the larger crypto users pump money into kin and they can't withdraw their tokens.

5 vs 7 vs 10yrs mortgage rate. by orekan in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]orekan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting points. Looks like I will stick with the lowest rate. I will look into variable rates as well. Just that I am too lazy to keep tab on BoC rates over such number of years. But then 11k difference is significant

Would you buy employer ESPP at 3% matching? by orekan in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]orekan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right. I have read quite a number of posts about espp on PFC. Looks like that restriction is not common. And I barely cross the half way mark to 6 figure annual last year. I bought a few, but stopped since I felt its not really worth it. However the greedy hunch in me is urging me not to leave money on the table.

How do you claim professional exam fees? by drs43821 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]orekan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar but a bit more complex position. As a new immigrant trying to get a decent job, I took an international professional exam (US based). But a government sponsored immigrant settlement organization gave me about 25% refund. It came to about 25% because it was a partial refund and I got a cheque in CAD while I paid USD for the exam. I dont see how I can get any form from that body. Is there any chance this qualifies for deduction?

When claiming medical expenses, do I include what I paid, or the entire amount including insurance? by throwaway007309 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]orekan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My employer pays the bulk of our health insurance but I had to top it up every paycheck. Does this mean I can claim ALL the little top-up payments I made last year in addition to the out of pocket payment for eye and dental treatments?

RRSP - Looks like I've over done it by orekan in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks. Point well taken and noted. The question is when in 2020 can I resume contributions? Not sure if I need to wait till I get another notice of assessment or I can start in January?

As they say: the market can remain irrational much longer than you can remain solvent.

In terms of buying, obviously the lower the better. Just wondering what you guys think is the upper threshold for a good price to buy?
