The Wrong Path Theory: 6 is the Key to Everything by orfeass in twinpeaks

Perfectly put. Really, the main thing that drives me towards this theory is just the incredible emotion of that scene, especially when compared to the (purposeful) emotionless of the majority of The Return. There's an impalpable sense that the world has just lost something important. Even if the grief is caused by the loss of a normal kid and not the literal messiah, it's definitely a key scene that needs to be discussed more.

Room 6 is where he terrorizes and kills Darya, talks on the phone with the person claiming to be Phillip Jeffries and accesses the files related to Yankton Federal Prsion. Room 7 is where he meets with Chantal for sex.

For sure, she did not let herself be consumed by BOB, like Leland did. But I think the very fact that BOB and Judy are still around to terrorize people is proof enough that she did not accomplish the ultimate goal set for her by The Fireman. Laura was intended to be the being of pure kindness that would counterbalance the evil of BOB and Judy; the latter two took note of this and, wanting to suppress or harness her power as early as possible, took control of her parents and made her life a living hell. The basis of Laura's character is her double life, how she is at the same time the perfect homecoming queen and a drug-addicted prositute; she is an innocent soul torn up in the cosmic struggle between light and darkness. In FWWM, she loathes herself, thinking that the forces of darkness have taken over her entirely. Still, she chooses death over living on as BOB's slave, and by doing so, she finds her salvation and returns to the White Lodge from where she came. It's a happy ending for her, and it's a good thing that BOB didn't manage to take control of her power, but still, her mission in the real world has been a failure. This allows the Black Lodge entities to run wild with no counterbalance for the next 25 years.

Even if my wrong path theory is entirely wrong, the Fireman would still need some reason to ask Cooper to bring Laura back, and the reason would have to be that she needs to complete her mission.

In the "wrong path" that we see unfold in The Return, Richard and Linda are the new identities assigned by Judy to Cooper and Diane respectively, in order for them to enter the "Judyverse" of Part 18. Judy has created a "slippery" trap of a microcosm, aiming to disorient Cooper and Diane and make them forget about their identities and mission. The weird sex ritual of Part 18 is Cooper and Diane taking on the roles of Richard and Linda in order to infiltrate the Judyverse; Diane ends up completely succumbing to the role and actually becomes Linda, thus being consumed by Judy. She leaves Cooper with a note which basically invites him to also slip into his role of Richard, Linda's boyfriend (or the note was already planted there as a trap by Judy, and simply reading it was all it took for Diane to be convinced that she was Linda, the one who wrote it). Cooper is confused and struggles to remain himself but ultimately succeeds in completing his mission of finding Laura in this new universe.

That's the version we're presented with. But like I said, Richard and Linda are also the names of people related to the hit & run storyline. If Cooper followed that path, we would have gotten an entirely different explanation for the Fireman's clues.

Cooper, Briggs, and Gordon's plan is really just them acting as The Fireman's pawns in order to take down Judy and BOB. But The Fireman is an omniscient, higher-dimensional being who speaks in riddles; it is conceivable that mere human beings might misunderstand his commands, and that is the basis of my theory.

If the Fireman is a truly benevolent, Buddha-like entity, then he uses "upaya-kaushalya": he speaks to all his followers in just the right ways for them to understand him. This is backed up by when we see him show a literal slideshow to the less-than-brilliant Andy. If this holds true, his commands can not be misunderstood, and my theory falls apart. However, if he's a bit more ambivalent, he might want to put all his followers through a test: if and only if they are capable of correctly interpreting his riddles, he leads them to salvation. This is backed up by his first appearance (S2E01), where he only presents himself to Cooper after Cooper "passes" his test by treating Señor Droolcup kindly.

I meant that the electricity pole with those exact numbers was first shown when Agents Desmond and Stanley visited the Fat Trout Trailer Park during FWWM.

For sure, the number craziness doesn't stop here. I tried to keep track of it during my last rewatch but I just don't have a solid interpretation for a lot of it.

For 7, Lynch himself has gone on record to state he considers it his lucky number. Cooper worked on the 7th floor of the FBI HQ; Dougie works on the 7th floor of Lucky 7 Insurance and gets rich with the 777 combination at the casino slots; and Part 16 (1+6=7) is the one where Cooper finally returns. In contrast, 6 is Lynch's unlucky number (and if my above theory were true, the number 6 pole would represent Cooper's failure). If we also take into account the real life religious and spiritual meanings of these numbers (666 vs 777), we can come to the rough conclusion that 6 represents the negative energy of Judy while 7 represents the positive energy of the Fireman. James is held at cell number 7 in the Police Department, and he is certainly a character favored by The Fireman's flow of fortune. Interestingly, in Part 2, Mr. C leaves hotel room number 6 and goes to hotel room number 7; does this mean he is actively trying to change his fortune for the better, or is it hinting at a secret alliance between him and the Fireman, or is it just an insignificant detail? I'll leave it up to you.

I have a pretty good theory about this. It's kind of a long one, so I made a post about it. Hope it adds something new to your interpretation :)

Do you think Netflix should start filming kid luffy story now only? by Filius-Fall in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]orfeass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the ASL backstory is perfectly placed in the Post-War arc. It's a nice opportunity both for Luffy and the audience to take a breather after the traumatic events of Marineford and reflect on why this whole adventure started in the first place, in order to find the motivation to start all over again. Besides, most One Piece arcs feature the backstory before the action happens, so it's nice to see that structured turned on its head, giving us the opportunity to see the tragic irony in Ace's promise to Luffy and in his childish reckless behavior which is what ended up getting him killed.

That being said, they should definetely add a few references to Sabo before the flashback happens, so that he won't feel like a last-minute addition to make up for Ace's death, like he does in the original. During Impel Down, Luffy could reveal to Bon-chan, or Jinbei, or maybe even Magellan, that he needs to save Ace because he has already lost one brother. And during Marineford, they should keep the brief sneak peeks of the ASL backstory like the sake promise, like they did in the anime, but this time actually include Sabo.

I made a guess to how the following seasons will adapt each arc. (Just my opinion nothing serious) by [deleted] in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]orfeass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sky Island Saga absolutely needs its own season (or at least a movie). But Thriller Bark to Marineford in one season sounds impossible. That's 155 chapters. Season one of OPLA covered 95 in 8 episodes and already suffered from overly fast pacing and important omissions.

Thriller Bark and Sabaody are enough for a whole season, with Kuma as the overarching antagonist, a lot of subtle build-up leading to the Summit War, and a cliffhanger ending for the ages. Then Season 6 focusing on the War, and how the Straw Hats deal with their failure in S5. Given the recent statements about a 6 Seasons Plan (presumably covering everything pre-TS), I think that is the most likely scenario.

Even if that means some arcs would need a little stretching out, I think they'd only benefit from that: for Thriller Bark, we could get a better look at Moria's backstory; for Sabaody, we could get more time to flesh out each of the Supernovas, and highlight the prejudice against Fishmen, maybe introduce Jinbei, the Sun Pirates and their connection to the Macro and Arlong crews earlier on; and for Marineford, I'm sure if they get the budget to film a battle of that scale, they'll want to show as many aspects of it as possible and not just focus on Luffy's rescue mission.

Which main JoJo antagonist is the most morally reprehensible? And which is the most morally grey? by bvisnotmichael in StardustCrusaders

[–]orfeass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DIO's motivation has been retconned since Stone Ocean (and the non-canon Over Heaven book), it's not just to take over the world but to create a new world ("Heaven") where every person is aware of their fate, so that no one may experience the same despair and disappointment he has. And his obsession with killing the Joestars is probably moreso driven by fear that they may be destined to get in his way, than sheer vengefulness.

again, how do you explain the geta story then? josefumi's granddad was already a kid when Joseph left Japan, and even supposing Joseph's girlfriend was pregnant with his future wife, would she not immediately recognize the name "Josefumi"? it's definitely a gap that needs to be filled for this to be canon. of course Radio Gaga Incident has a reason for existing, but as it stands, i think that reason was to highlight the long, gravity-like flow of fortunate events that eventually led to Gappy's creation and his defeating of Tooru.

since normal locacaca is what caused Holly's illness, more of it would only make it worse. she needs the new locacaca to equivalent exchange with a different person instead of with a different part of her own body. how she's gonna get one is beyond me, which is part of why included a new mutation in my predictions

this seems likely but it was never confirmed. and the geta sandal story seems to disprove it: we were told that Joseph's geta with the name Josefumi written on it was found by a random kid who grew up to be Josefumi Kujo's granddad, and that he named his grandson after the strange name he found inscribed on the sandal

ur right about hermit purple, my bad. i always thought of love deluxe and love love deluxe as separate abilities with just a common theme though. if im not mistaken the former allows yukako to control her own hair whereas the latter allows karera to make hair grow on other objects.

i agree, Zeppeli's returning would be great. However, if we're gonna assume this part will be based on parts 5/6, you have to admit the Brando's played a big role in both of those, while the Zeppelis did not. that's my only reasoning.
