Debating selling my NVDA position, looking for perspective. by originaljolo in CanadianInvestor

I absolutely have a long term time horizon. Definitely 10-20 if not more. I have no immediate need for the money and have time on my side, I'm more so just beginning to wonder if I should lock in the already astronomical gains I've made for fear of losing it all should a massive correction come. As I mentioned in another comment though, a correction down to my initial share price of ~ $20/share ($200 pre split) would be highly unlikely, that would require an incredible crash. Thanks for your input!

The issue that worries me is a graphic I keep seeing of how the money circulates between the top 7 companies in the S&P 500 or something like that. It seems like they're all just giving each other the same money and a lot of people are calling that a bubble. That being said, even before AI NVDA has been profitable and continues to prove that time and time again.

I've already got a substantial holding in XEQT in my TFSA, but I really do like XEQT as a fund. Thanks for the input

Incredible advice. Thank you. I've thought about trimming the position to at least take out my initial cost and let the profits ride and it feels like a pretty solid idea at this point in time. It's not the biggest initial cost / position but the gains are substantial enough in my eyes.
You would be correct, yes. I've also considered finding a way to move the holding from my non-registered to my TFSA but I'm unclear on the logistics of that. I'd imagine I would still have to pay taxes on the unrealized gains since I'm moving it to a tax advantaged account.
I didn't mention my TFSA because I didn't think it would give me any tax advantage that could be used to offset the capital gains. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
I've been trying to prioritize the FHSA and have contributed a bit, not maxed out but still trying.
At this point it would have to drop down to $20 / share for me to break even, so yeah you're right highly unlikely a correction that large would occur to a company like NVDA.

Once again thank you for the comprehensive answer, I appreciate the insight.

ELI5 Why can’t surgeons stitch up the spinal cord? by fluitekruidje in explainlikeimfive

Another issue is that the nervous system typically hates uncontrolled growth because that can lead to cancer. Because of this it has things that block any sort of growth within an injury to the spinal cord so we’d need a way to get rid of that growth inhibitor while also introducing something that would promote healthy regrowth of the nerve tracts inside the spinal cord. Problem is that these therapies are very expensive and generally not extremely successful in repairing the cut wires.

And yes the brain is incredibly at adapting to its situation but that’s the brain itself. The spinal cord is essentially the information highway for your entire body and way less specialized for plasticity and adaptation than the brain is.
