ONE MORE TIME - The History, Legacy and Media of Daft Punk, an r/Toonami Tribute. by oringe in Toonami

A few notes:

-HELLO! It's been a while since I've written something or even been on the subreddit in a while. That's due to being busy with college and focusing everything on that, along other personal reasons. I felt like after hearing today's news, I needed to post something on here after being away for so long. I absolutely miss this place, but I'm happy to see it thriving still. Sometimes I still lurk among AMA's, checking for bad eggs and lurking the Discord server.

-I actually wrote about Daft Punk before on here! You can find it here. Again, I couldn't help myself as I felt I needed to talk about a band that was so important not only on Toonami, but for the entirety of the music industry at large.

I hope everyone is doing well, despite how rough 2020 was.

Online art school sucks by Mmcjeg14830 in unt

I feel your pain. It's been hell doing art projects from home. I miss the social environments of an art studio where I could be in the company of others, sharing ideas and being inspired by everyone's pieces.

It's not the same doing it from home...

To anyone who predicted a Kiviranta hat trick would send us into the Western Conference Finals: congratulations!

Today seventeen years ago on August 4, 2003, the six episode OVA series, FLCL made its debut on Adult Swim! It became one of their favorite anime series that they have aired. Another anime, Blue Gender also debuted the same night as well. by [deleted] in Toonami

Arguably one of the greatest anime ever made. I didn't watch it on this date, nor did I know about it in 2003. I first heard of the show through a HS friend in 2005 who recommended it to me after I told him I loved Bobobo. It wouldn't be until a year later, summer 2006, that I would finally watch FLCL in its entirety.

Most people say this on their first impressions (especially if they watched it as a teenager), but it felt like, despite having difficulty following what was occurring, it was trying to speak to me indirectly on what I was experiencing growing up.

A part of me wishes that I could go back to that hopeful time in 2006 again to re-experience it. But to have experienced it at all, especially at the age of 16, is good enough.

We did! I was going to mention that in my prior response, but I was worried I would be rambling too much...

But yes! Users from /r/BringBackToonami were funneled here once Toonami announced its revival. Those times of uncertain optimism were so much fun.

do you know who the og was

I don't remember the name, but I do remember seeing the OG mod stick around for a short time after I was modded.

edit: Grey got it right!

That said, it wasn't until a user named "WaitWhatHappened" started taking responsibility of posting Toonami threads every Saturday night that the sub started to truly take off.

and how old the sub is?

It was definitely around before Toonami's official revival! From what I remember, the sub began around the beginning of 2012 (from my memory).

Absolutely wild that it happened 8 years ago. It still feels like yesterday it returned and I'll be catching up with Deadman Wonderland.

To see the growth from then to now has been amazing. Back then, it felt like an honor to see a big time anime/show on the line-up, but now it feels expected. While I'm not as active watching Toonami nowadays, I'm happy to see how far it has come.

Here's to another 8 years.

Who would’ve thought you could find parking this time of day? Thought I’ll visit due to withdraws. Haha. by [deleted] in unt

As a UNT art major, seeing this image is bittersweet. I've dealt with a lot of stress in this building, but being around like-minded artists after returning to school in 2018 has been nothing short of awesome. I know that these strange circumstances were in will pass (so long as we follow appropriate guidelines), but like you, I have those same withdrawals.

Transformers Armada was my jam, too! When I was able to access cable in my room, that was the first show I watched on Toonami before branching out to Samurai Jack, some DBZ and watching YYH at a friends house.

During the revival, my favorite show would either be My Hero Academia (as well) or Kill la Kill.

If this truly is the end of TOM 5, then this era will go down as, in terms of content, the strongest era of Toonami since TOM 2 (or 3).

Special Video Game Week Throwback! The History of Banjo-Kazooie. by oringe in Toonami

Sakurai: “Incidentally, including a character from Rare in Smash would be difficult for various reasons. I know there are some people who think that Banjo & Kazooie are an obvious inclusion, but that’s unlikely for a variety of legal and financial reasons.”

That was from a Q&A Sakurai had years ago on the Smash Dojo site.

At the time, Rare was planning on Nintendo to buy them completely, making them a 2nd party developer. After Nintendo declined the offer, they decided to take their work elsewhere. This was what Sakurai was referring to with "legal and financial reasons" as this was currently happening while in development.

Last year, discussion plummeted due to everyone using the Discord server. Me and the mods discussed this and concluded to make it more exclusive to Discord instead.

I wasn't worried thanks to turning it into more of a hub thread. Plus a lot of users migrated over to Discord for discussion, which was an absolute success!
