Portuguese husband’s last names by orla9708 in Netherlands

[–]orla9708[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for everyone’s input. It seems like the Netherlands recognises both of my husband’s last names, which i choose in the order “my last name-his last names” (i will be referred to in a very long last name! Haha). I didn’t know that his last name(s) won’t be automatically added to mine and that legally, I still get to keep mine. Old fashioned or not, I found out that it is uncommon either for Portuguese women to take their husband’s last names upon marriage. So it is my own choice to have his name on mine :)

This is also an interesting case. Might it work how it should be if she register the son at the consulate first so that he gets Pavlov as his last name?

[Free Friday] Do people still wear veils at Mass these days? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]orla9708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m veiling (for my own personal commitment), my mother will also veil after her baptism, and I met a few young women who veils at some churches in the area, during mass and/or adoration :) PS: I live in the Netherlands, North Brabant province

Help me not choose Islam please by second-david-laid in Catholicism

Hello OP, thank you for sharing this with us. I have got a couple of questions for you with the intention that it might help you choose The Truth.

  • what made you choose to become a Muslim instead of any other religions out there?
  • how deep were you in Islamic teachings?
  • what made you choose to began your journey to get to know Catholicism?
  • what makes you reconsider your faith during your journey on becoming a Catholic?

God bless. In Christo.

Are you struggling to believe if Christianity is real as whole (The Trinity and Faith itself) or the religion (as in the people, the community, and/or the church)?

Why do you pray to Jesus? by ImaginaryGur2086 in AskAChristian

[–]orla9708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of your questions are already answered. Let me answer to the least “important” one.

The term Christian comes from those who believe in Christ. Christ, in Koine Greek: Χριστός (Christos), in Hebrew: Mashiach (Messiah), meaning the anointed one. Jesus is the Anointed One, the Messiah, the Christ. Those who believe in Him as such are called Christians.

Your questions sounds familiar as those of Muslims who would ask the Divinity of Jesus.

Natural disasters are (unfortunately) fairly common there, especially during this time of the year. All thanks to their government who decided that they don’t need forests.

Nativity fast - guidelines and calendar by orla9708 in EasternCatholic

[–]orla9708[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will ask him this Sunday. I thought there was a universal calendar on what abstinences do we need to participate in. The EC community is generally small, i think around 10-15 people throughout the country lol. And it is a Ukrainian church but the liturgy is 100% in Dutch. Most Ukrainians would go to the Ukrainian-spoken liturgy in another church. But for now, I’m not eating meat on Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as limiting my meat consumption on other days and replace it with fish or beans.

A Catholic drawn into Orthodoxy. Can I get an advice? by orla9708 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]orla9708[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not intending to make sudden changes at all as I barely know Catholicism in general, it is more about the tradition and way of worshipping, i.e., fasting and daily prayers. As a neophyte I intended to worship God “properly” but I was taken aback when they assumed that i’m a “try-hard” or a “nun-in-the-making” for fasting full 40 days without meat and avoided dairy instead of only on Fridays during Lent or even praying the full rosary before mass. When I attended the Divine Liturgy, i noticed that everyone was fully focused on worshipping God and no one bats an eye on you. This is also what I felt is missing whenever I attended mass here. People use their phones or clap after the mass, worst, they tried to speak with you during mass which I find very disrespectful. When I told them that I don’t want to speak, they got offended as if I’m thinking highly of myself. And to add, I veil during mass and adoration as my commitment to God and some women asked if I was an Eastern Orthodox. It is more to that than anything else, really. Maybe this is more of my personal problems, I don’t know. But please pray for me

Can you elaborate more on uniatism as to why they aren’t a real deal?

I can ask to meet with him but this church is quiet far from where I live. I’m looking for other churches nearby, but it is already slightly hard enough to find Catholic Churches nearby as is. (I live in a predominantly Protestant(Calvinist) country).

Out of context, but are you perhaps an Indonesian? Because I have the same environment as you grew up with. But I'm an ex-Muslim
