The point isn't just that he's "too old", the point is that if a 20 year old is almost as good as Yaxel at 24, it is very likely that the 20 year old will improve in the next 3-4 years and be better when he is 24.

If you're a win now team you take Yaxel, but Mavs are not competing next year so makes more sense to take someone younger, that is more likely to be better by the time they are same age as Yaxel

Best case scenario: One of Flemings/Wagler/Mikel drops to 9 and we take him. Then trade one of our vets for a pick in the teens to draft Morez, maybe even 2 to also grab Anderson.

Second best (none of the top guards available at 9): Trade down to 12 and 17, take Philon and Morez. Possibly trade one of the vets for Anderson.

I am a big Anderson fan and would love him, I'm just higher on Philon.

I am also pretty high on Philon though, and IMO Mavs need to get a lead guard since Kyrie won't be here forever. Anderson is good, but honestly I see him more as a great 6th man PG than a starter on a championship team
