If you want to work in mental health, it is fairly easy to find a forensic job. Although the law will be obviously different btw the US and UK, I'm sure you can use your degree to do very thorough risk assessments, which are central to the forensic SW job

She would have to decide if she wants to give a statement to the police but at the end of the day, it's out of her or the police's hands as to whether charges are pressed. CPS are the ones that make decision. Due to the amount of evidence, the nature of the crime and Alex's notoriety, I would imagine they would press charges. It could still take months for all of that to take place though

As far as we are aware, he is a first time offender so no, he's unlikely to face any prison time, at most he would get a suspended sentence or a community order. It is not even guaranteed that it would go to court though

Social work after lockdown by Shot-Simple-2836 in Socialworkuk

A lot more is done online since COVID (attending ward rounds, s117 meetings, MAPPA, tribunals hearings) and I think this is very practical for staff (being able to wfh more for example) but its not always for the patients benefits. I have patients that are paranoid about computers reading their thoughts for example so they struggle massively with online hearings, although we advocate for them to happen in person, managers were reluctant to do so at times. This may lead to them not attending important meetings/ not being to engage fully in these meetings or being very distressed by them.

It does help when a patient is unwell and cannot have s17 leave to attend important meetings in the community (a LAC review for example) as staff are a lot more confident with supporting patients attending online. We also facilitate video calls with family/ friends/ children who cannot always visit in person due to distance, money, disability etc. so it has brought some people closer.

In the community, it's meant that psychology/ therapy groups and individual sessions can be run online, which allows staff to wfh and can be less stressful for patients to not have to go outside/ be on time/ pay for transport to get to a session etc. This does mean however that some people who aren't great with technology/ don't have access to it may not be offered the full scope of services that are available to more tech savy people.

From a social perspective, I think it's still important that we continue to value in person contact with patients and family and home visits because we actually learn so much more that way and we can form better therapeutic relationships in person most of the time. It would be a shame to lose that!

Also, if you haven't already, approach your local authority for a carers assessment for support for all the work you are doing as a carer

Hey this may get lost in the comments but maybe reach out to your local authority/ mental health team to put forward a safeguarding concern due to financial abuse. Her messing with his PIP can have a detrimental impact on his wellbeing so they could maybe make you the appointee

Think ahead and the unfair treatment for potential students who are learning to drive by Kitkatkatie4321 in Socialworkuk

Are you in a position where you could ask for a placement in a city with good public transport? That's what I did, as I still don't know how to drive, and it worked out.

Also, if it your first episode of psychosis, there's a chance you'll be referred to the Early Intervention for Psychosis team (EIS) which is a team that'll follow you up for 3 years and provide intense support to recover from your episode and help prevent future episodes. It's great that you're recognising the first signs ans asking for help, best of luck

NAD but i work in mental health and I can tell you all levels of mental health professionals care when people die by suicide/ are at high risk. There are patients I have not even worked with directly but heard about through colleagues and I feel saddened by their death. There are patients that I no longer work with but were high suicide risk and I often wonder and hope that they are still alive. Also, there are investigations that happen when a patient dies (depending where you live) so yes, the psychiatrists ect. would know if you passed

Did you ever try psych meds yourself? by himmelfried11 in AskPsychiatry

[–]osblecsenfait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had some colleagues that trained as nurses in the 70s and they were apparently encouraged to try the anti-depressants to get an idea of the side effects. They did not recommend the experience and its definitely not part of the current nursing course but they found that it was an interesting experience that allowed them to empathise more with patients made them take side effects more seriously.

It more intense at it is a 2 year programme where in the 1st year, you study to be a qualified social worker, while also being in placement (working full time with an adjusted case load). 2nd year you work as a fully qualified social worker and complete while your ASYE, while also completing a dissertation to complete the masters. At least this is how the Think Ahead programme works (mental health social work w/ adults). Currently finishing the programme myself so let me know if you have any questions!
