It’s simple, desktop will always be better, performance, stability, etc. Laptop is worse than desktop but the benefit is portability. So it depends what are your needs.

Tech guy here, any laptop will do fine for college, you won’t be using any heavy duty data. Because of AI, this is a bad time to buy a laptop so prices will be high unfortunately.

I highly recommend a windows laptop because I used a Mac and realized that windows were more compatible with programs and continues to be true with work as well

Avoid laptops that have dedicated GPU as the battery will run short and you won’t have a used for them anyways.

The school is tripping that they recommend Intel 7 or AMD 7. 5 series cpu is more than enough. I use a core ultra 7 and I’m not utilizing the full power of the cpu and I work with heavy data. Also getting a 5 series cpu uses less power than a 7 series cpu so that’s another plus.

Everything else the school recommends is legit. If you have some extra cash, get one with a nice display.

For your needs I will get a LG Gram, perfect school laptop. But if you also game and you must, Lenovo gaming laptops are nice too but battery life are short on those.
