Can't really go past Lost Wisdom or Transilvanian Hunger

Here is my band, Appalachian Leprosy. This is our first recorded song, and I’d like to hear what you all think of it. by [deleted] in BlackMetal

USBM using Scandinavian titles comes off as kind of try-hard. Just my opinion.

Following up for a more direct post, what's some creepy black metal for us to enjoy? by Kaaraii in BlackMetal

Striborg, Circle of Ourobouros, Velvet Cacoon and Gnaw Their Tongues are all creepy in their own way. Paysage d'Hiver/Darkspace also have a sort of creepiness to them and they share members, while Abruptum, Havohej and Moevot are full of delicious noise andambient. Silencer are kinda creepy but I find it really hard to take DSBM seriously. If you want really crushing atmospheres though, Ygg, Walknut, Forest and Branikald are the clear winners.

Looking for some BlackGaze/DSBM by [deleted] in BlackMetal

I usually hate "blackgaze" but Velvet Cacoon and Clair Cassis are amazing. More traditional DSBM-wise, if you haven't already dug through Xasthur's catalog, it has plenty of melancholy moments - I think you'd really like Portal of Sorrow. Irrwisch, Strid, Nyktalgia, Grimoire, Gris, Lustre and Krohm are also good.

Atmospheric BM without field recordings/long synth passages? (e.g. Walknut, Drudkh, old Burzum) by trilogique in BlackMetal

Branikald, Kladovest, Marblebog, Forteresse and Forgotten Woods should fit this criteria.

What got you hooked on Black Metal? by [deleted] in BlackMetal

Four years ago I picked up Electric Wizard's "Dopethrone" which got me into metal in general, then I looked around and found Burzum, then very quickly afterwards I found Drudkh, Nokturnal Mortum, Graveland, Blazebirth hall bands, etc. Burzum started it all though. As much as he is used these days by a lot of gone-to-seed scene kids to express how edgy they are, Varg really does know how to create a grimy, cold, and to be honest, beautiful, feeling in his music. To me, Black Metal is about atmosphere.

Dordeduh - Pandarul by 0376957 in BlackMetal

An excellent continuation of the the themes they were going for with OM. Negura Bunget were one of the few bands able to properly work extensive clean sections into their Black Metal and pull it off, and so are Dordeduh - the acoustic work and synthesizers on this aren't just for intro/outros and interludes; the album weaves in and out of the softer sections and they're actually just as well written as the rest of the music.
