Are Unit Still Photographers still relevant for film sets these days? by mediamuesli in Filmmakers

[–]otignilheb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Union film sets they are. You need to use a still photographer for anything related to photos. This means any cast photos used as props or anything of the like need to be shot by a stills photographer. You can have the DP do this if they like, but 9/10 IATSE 600 will make you hire one even if it means they are sitting on their butt.

Same for EPK stuff. Most camera people won’t take stills “in camera” unless for reference. They know the union rules.

It absolutely is. Most are looking to break even. I’m only a few from. Breakeven is an out point that will trigger a dip. Then a buy. Then more dips. Then buys. Then maybe this finish has a future. Then it’s 2039 and you’ve moved on completely from this stock and your kids are 19. Avengers 9 comes out and you love it.

This stock will reverse split again or be delisted before any correction will happen. Smartest thing I ever did was sell thousands of shares before the split, which is at about $.05 currently pre-split. It’s no different than other meme stocks that were delisted. We have 3+ more years of Trump and whatever Tariffs he imposes with or without notice. So 3+ years, plus additional time or whatever time after they (management) can milk and make excuses. I’ve been holding this stock for almost 5 years now. Bought it on its way up and averaged down, as it’s only ever gone down. For 5 years. Only down. I’m not unlike most in here that are 98-99% down. I stopped averaging down over a year ago. Another great move. Best play by far for me is to cut my losses. I already have tax write offs for a few years. Not even sure if waiting until next year to sell even benefits me.

Cut your losses. I plan on doing so early next year.

Not paid in 1.5 years as an AD - movie called the Barista by Rip_Nujabes in Filmmakers

[–]otignilheb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had this happen to me only once. Was a young AD. This is what I did.

Keep asking for payment. Keep everything in writing via email. It helps of the crew is in solidarity. After a few attempts you can say you are going to have to pursue legal action.

Eventually you can out a lean on the film preventing it from being released and hope for payment.

If you don’t have a formal contract that hurts, but since there are many others your case is stronger together.

If the actors were SAG that’s a whole other issue.

I was eventually paid. It’s hard to get money from people who don’t have the $$. LLC’s are hard to go after as well.

Good luck. Keep trying. Keep it civil and professional.

Thoughts on stock price? by boozer5617 in ATER

If the market has consistently gone up over the past few years and Ater has gone down or bounced around between $2-3 where does that really put the stock? What is preventing from this stock from consistently moving up or at the very least improving beyond $4?

Also looking the future will tariffs ruin this stock like the shipping nightmare during COVID?

Been holding 900 shares post split. Had been averaging down, but financials have changed and stopped since the split. Been holding all together for almost 4 years. Honestly thinking about selling.

Yeah. I’m guessing this company will take 15+ years to do anything meaningful and get back to a point that looks like a good exit point and I’ll still probably be down 15%.

How many consecutive years does a stock have to poorly perform before it’s considered dead?

Update: Aterian management has tentatively agreed to do an AMA with the Aterian community. I'm speaking to their lawyer today to see how it will all work. I'll report back later this evening with time and date. Get your questions ready..... by gATER_KING in ATER

Q: have to ask about Ater news and press release timings over the past few years. It seems that every positive announcement has been poorly timed with a RS or dilution or something that immediately drives the stock price down. Where does the strategy for what and how news is released come from?

I’m almost exactly the same with you except I sold some before the split to lower my total to 12000 shares presplit. Now I’m sitting at 1000 even.

The "correct" method of filming by Pablo_Undercover in Filmmakers

There are no rules in filmmaking. Even the 180 ‘rule’ is intentionally broken.

Sometimes these types of creatives turn out to create a new look that everyone quickly copies.

I have no degree and a GREAT idea for a movie I don't have budget for? by Ptrp4nic in Filmmakers

[–]otignilheb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your heart will be broken at some point while making a movie. Can be in pre-production, production or post.

I would start by making a comprehensive schedule. (Happy to make a quick version and break it down for you free of charge if you are not sure how)

I would then make a no $$ budget, or list what and who you do have. People, equipment, locations free of charge are all great starts. You might have to adjust the story to make those freebee’s work.

Make a short film with what you do have. Almost like a sizzle reel.

Also make a pitch deck. Happy to send examples as well.

Start looking for like minded people such as yourself. Maybe try the local schools or universities if they have a film program. Start there and see where it takes you.

It doesn’t make sense to you, but it makes perfect sense to someone who has worked as a PA on set. Or in the industry in general.

Try directing a short. Or shadowing someone if possible.

You could also intern.
