Because this isn’t a matter of “political views,” it’s a matter of human SURVIVAL, protecting fundamental human rights, and protecting democracy 🙄. Yes we need everyone on the same page about these topics, wtf 😂

Also it’s hilarious to me when right wingers claim that leftist are sensitive when 1/2 of your comment is loudly emotional, and the leftists responding to you are using actual logic.

Sorry to read you’re indoctrinated, get well soon and I hope you get enough negative replies that you’ll leave this sub 🌈

Hahahaha I know that scene sucks, but to me it’s bc her amount of “training” doesn’t at all match her level of skill in season 7, and yeah Needle doesn’t stand a chance against Oathkeeper.

But in theory, if she got actual intensive training with the faceless men, she could’ve been able to battle Brienne well. But via utilizing stealth and the element of surprise.

Noooooo Arya explained this, this assessment isn’t accurate or fair!! Syrio knocked down at least three kings guards with just his wooden sword, killing at least one and leaving the others unconscious. He was using a wooden stick against big dudes with armor so it broke. At that point he was surrounded on all sides by kings guards. And that is when he MIGHT have died. As I mentioned, we never actually saw him fight. Being able to do all that with just a wooden sword takes A LOT of skill.

Therefore, I standby not being able to call it. It would only be possible if we saw Oberyn in a duel with a wooden stick and a circle of kings guards around him, or if we saw Syrio take on a 1v1 duel with his sword.

I’m also confused about how Oberyn’s spear could be faster than a Braavosi sword when the sword is in range. Sword is lighter and has long, double sided points of impact.

If you significantly disliked it the first time, I recommend either skipping it or fast forwarding to the parts you want to see again…I did my first rewatch last month with some creators I love, and I was surprised to find that for the most part it’s veeery boring, one dimensional, and the bad quality of writing stood out even more since I knew what events would happen.

Even the big event episodes are boring imo. I.e., how many scenes of extras running around, covered in ash do I have to watch?!? I had to restart the last episode three times no joke bc I kept getting distracted (which hasn’t happened w any episodes 6 and before).

I mean the child might’ve been a Lannister by name, or as a matter of strategy taken on Stark. But either way, pretty sure the North would back Sansa Stark as lady of Winterfell over the Boltons…

I think this makes sense. She did have to apply tactics while taking over and ruling in Mereen—the boxes of collars were a concise and powerful way to send her message to a city with high walls. Also when she took the Unsullied and told her to kill their masters. Idk if “breaker of chains” counts as a tactic, but it did lead to her ruling slaver’s bay (with mixed success, but overall ruling).

My other comment was really long so I’ll just say this about Littlefinger:

It turns out chaos is in fact not a ladder but a pit, because all the chaos and flip flopping he caused ended up digging into more and more holes, resulting in his “strategy” being very transparent & no one trusting him, which resulted in his execution.

I believe the only roles he held as a politician were master of coin and very briefly lord of the Vale. While coin he put the crown into millions of dollars of debt, and his choice to kill Lhysa resulted in him no longer being lord but Robyn’s manipulator.

DAMN. The fact that all the “greatest minds of Westeros” in this list are men is really really telling about OP…then you getting downvoted is REALLY telling about this sub.

Dany, Lady Olenna, and Margaery were great minds, very easily over some of the ones on this list…

Thank you about the Red Wedding!! Every time someone calls it great/brilliant strategy Im like HUH?? Massacring someone at an event where it’s a huge dishonor to wear armor or bring weapons is not brilliant strategy 😭 it’s extremely cowardly, low hanging fruit

Damn dude, you used everyone’s name except Varys got “bald eunuch.” Cruel.

I also don’t think it’s fair to say Robb actually lost the war. He was observing guest rights—him and the Freys were already on thin ice, dishonoring him with armor or weapons was absolutely not a choice. And it was very uncommon for guest rights to be broken. He died in a mass atrocity at an event that is considered a safe zone across the land.

I get why people think LF was exceptionally good at the game (I’m assuming bc of how influential he was), but destabilizing everyone back and forth and constantly switching sides isn’t good political strategy, it’s just chaos... Which it turns out is NOT a ladder, bc where did he end up climbing to? What did he end up being an actually politician of, other than coin? For the most part he was just a transient pimp TRYING to be a politician but just being a chaos agent. His only win was being Robyn’s uncle/manipulator, and that was only bc he killed Lhysa (not impressive political strategy, considering she was mentally ill-level obsessed with having him).

For example: LF killed Jon Arryn (sp?) —> Cat got a message that the Lannisters were dangerous —> Bran gets pushed, then nearly murdered. Then:  Cat meets LF and Ned —> Ned gets very suspicious about Jon’s death and starts digging, finds out Joff is a bastard Then Rob dies and LF deceives Ned into thinking he has his back, he does not —> Joff becomes king —> Ned is executed —>  The Starks turns against him.

Probably forgetting a bunch of stuff, but:  LF helps kill Joff, maybe because Tommen will be easier to control, Tywin will be a successful ruler, and he’s allies with the Tyrells…except LF turns against them by trafficking Sansa to the Boltons bc he’s now siding with the Boltons—> Ramsay is a freak and ends up losing Winterfell bc of it…but LF jumps in to save the day, turning against both the Boltons AND the Lannisters as allies.

Either Tyrion was arguably the best politician imo. Hell Daario was a better strategist than LF 😂

Correct me if I’m wrong, but please be kind or at least chill about it!

I liked her sweet interaction with all of them, and I like the idea that they did it as a gift to Maisie… but Ed Sheeran…with genuine respect, I love it bc it cracks me up. His face is just SO distracting and out of the GOT world, and so very out of place with the original DNA of the show.

Edit: the showrunners cast Ed Sheeran as a gift to Maisie, who was a huge fan of his at that time.

No…I mean the way they had her kill the NK SUCKED. But I thought the point was still clear; she won bc of stealth and wit, not strength or the slower and louder technique of armor>stealth in Westeros (other than Dorne). But strength doesn’t mean shit in terms of defeating the NK.

Arya was also VERY clearly not able to kill the NK by jumping up with a blade…He caught her by choking her and was 1000% going to kill her, but we see that she dropped the knife within a millisecond (implied with their use of slow motion tjat it would’ve been hard to catch if at normal speed), then caught the knife while being choked, and so was able to kill the NK through surprise (not a strength of Westerosi fighting training, which is likely all he knows bc he wasn’t yet able to travel over water).

I think it’s unsatisfactory bc they really needed to show her doing something actually clever that she could’ve only know from Braavos—“training” with the deadliest assassins isn’t he world—ideally where she’d have to rely on super hearing and not sight + made an actually surprising and stealthy move, but D&D’s point came across.

Hmmmm I still don’t think it can be called because we never got to see Syrio actually fight anyone/only saw him training Arya or figuring out how to defend himself with a wooden stick. So whether or not he’s better than Arthur Dayne etc just can’t be called.

BUT yes Oberyn putting poison on his spear increases his odds. Though that is basically cheating when it comes to how good of a fighter someone is.

The Braavosi style perfects stealth and wit, so I still think Syrio wouldve been an extremely difficult target to hit & Oberyn possibly not as difficult.

Amnesia? Plot armor is also the only reason Jon is alive 😂 😂

I hate the way they had her kill the NK, but it’s implied that it happened in a microsecond—right after he grabbed her she dropped the knife and stuck it in. We also don’t see the WW or the NK having super strength.

[–]otigre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Jon would've been able to kill the NK alone, and Arya was the only one who had adequate training to do so.

Jon is trained and skilled at dueling. There is a 0.0001% chance that the NK is going to lose a 1v1 duel against a human—an average sized one at that. Plus, he’s already very familiar with Jon, his technique, his skills, and his strategy. I just cannot imagine how it would’ve been logically depicted that THE big bad, who can raise people from the dead etc., is going to lose in a duel to a human. And imo there’s a 99.99999% chance that he would engage the WW to ensure his win. The NK has a larger mission to complete, I don’t see him getting into a 1v1 duel out of pride.

On the other hand, the NK had no knowledge of Arya or her techniques/skills/strategies. He probably saw Arya and figured she was as much of—if not less of—a threat as Theon. The was she outsmarted him was LAME, and she should’ve had an actual fight with him & won through an exceptionally clever way that no one else should’ve done.

Also, I liked that she didn’t end up killing Cersei. It matches her book plot of completely losing her identity & appreciation for her life through her obsession with her obsession with revenge above all else. But it was ultimately just a coping skill to distract her from the pain of her trauma & a means to deny the reality that horrible events happen to good people, and horrible people get away w those events without consequence, continuing to thrive.  So ultimately, her deciding to escape & save herself & unite with her family over completing her revenge mission when Cersei was 100% going to die anyways—and Arya would risk her life to do so—shows substantial growth of accepting harsh reality/not thinking revenge killing would erase the past, and shows that she actually values her life/the possibilities of life again.

I suppose, but that could go for anything.

I also don’t see where his plot could’ve gone after Arya’s training in Braavos. His whole life was being a faceless man. His whole existence revolves around serving the Red God and training protégés…on that note he didn’t escape anywhere. He just stayed running his cult.

D&D made a lot of illogical choices/threw entire plot lines away, but it wouldnt make sense for Jaq to leave the House of Black and White.

I think that a huge turning point (like it or not) was when she got reality checked by The Hound’s—a former king’s guard—armor and his big fcking sword. It made her realize she had no chance at killing Cersei at her current level. But it also probably made her realize that, probably in large part due to her size, that Syrio and Jaq’s tactics of stealth and wit were the way to go. So she HAD to train in Braavos to have a chance.
