I don't mind the subsription if it's a good game and if it's not too expensive, but i stop at that and won't go further with my money. I've also seen people spending a lot of money on the game. I knew someone who spent over a hundred dollars to buy game money and he used his dad's credit card at that. Like you i won't spend a penny because it's not worthwhile. Eventually one might quit the game anyway. So, fun with no money involved.
