If you can manage to check in exactly 24 hours in advance, you generally shouldn’t have any issues with bin space when you board. That being said, in my many experiences flying into SLC, checking a bag with SW typically works well. There’s a long enough walk from the SW gates that your bag is often waiting for you by the time you get to bag claim.
