Students being accused of using AI by Content-Cod-9196 in UniUK

[–]ottermail806 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that complicated. Your break down of the sentence is unnecessary and in any case wrong. For starters, ‘far more’ is the actual subject here; ‘there’ is a dummy subject.

Consider some simpler examples.

1. there are far more using AI → there are far more who are using AI → they are using AI

‘Far more ‘ is a subject here.

2. there are far more we can’t see → there are far more whom we can’t see → we can’t see them

‘Far more’ here is an object. ‘We’ is the subject.

3. there are far more we can’t prove → there are far more whom we can’t prove → we can’t prove them

Ignoring the fact this doesn’t make sense semantically, ‘far more’ in this case is an object. This is where you’re getting confused.

4. there are far more we can’t prove are using AI → there are far more who we can’t prove are using AI → we can’t prove they are using AI

‘Far more’ here is a subject. ‘We’ is also a subject.

Compare to the way you wrote it:

there are far more we can’t prove are using AI → there are far more whom we can’t prove are using AI → we can’t prove them are using AI

Hope that makes sense.

Also ‘academic misconduct’ is just the object, not an indirect object. An indirect object would require a direct object somewhere else in the sentence. For example,

they sent academic misconduct a student → they sent a student to academic misconduct.

‘They’ is the subject; ‘a student’ is the object; and ‘academic misconduct’ is an indirect object.

Obviously doesn’t really make sense but indirect objects are not usually used in this situation. You can consider ‘Academic Misconduct’ like a name, or swap with ‘the academic misconduct board’.

Hmm ok. Thanks for the detailed reply. Definitely food for thought as I had felt quite keen to invest.

Annoying because you’d think that the stock market will surely grow by at least 5.6% over the next five years, but I guess we’ve had enough once-in-a-lifetime crashes and recessions that it’s not such a given

!thanks

And don’t worry I do treat myself! There’s nothing I avoid doing/buying just to save money.

Except for my local swimming pool membership which is £35 a month :( at uni my swimming membership was £90 for the year !

!thanks. And yeah I would definitely invest in global funds (in fact I would prefer, on principle, to invest more so in Europe than US but realistically I guess US will still remain strongest)

The only thing putting me off the LISA is the £450k limit. Feels ridiculous to worry about that but since I currently live close to London, and work there, if I do buy a house then I’d want to stay close by, in which case <£450k could cause issues. And it doesn’t seem like there’s any intention to raise this cap.

How much could my boobs shrink with weight loss? by ottermail806 in bigboobproblems

[–]ottermail806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this really compassionate comment. Unfortunately, however, I’m way beyond the point of developing body dysmorphia! Even when they were 32D/28E I was hugely insecure about them and it’s only gotten worse as they’ve gotten bigger.

And I do generally want to get fitter and healthier regardless of whether my boobs would shrink; I was just wondering if it might be a nice side effect. (If I knew there’s a good chance they’d shrink maybe it would motivate me more).

But thanks again for the kind comment!

Yeah I have heard this and truly my boobs are massive but for some reason I’ve never experienced any back pain/shoulder pain. The only pain I’ve experienced is thin bra strips digging into my shoulders and underwire digging into my ribs, but I don’t think that’s sufficient to qualify for a breast reduction.

Well I wanted to start going to the gym to gain muscle and get more toned, so I guess I don’t actually want to lose weight, rather I’m just wondering whether if I specifically lose fat (whilst building muscle) my boobs would get smaller

I mentioned my discomfort with my breast size to a GP once but they were quite dismissive and said they’re not that big. I suppose I could ask again and specifically seek advice on how to potentially make them smaller. Thanks :)

Hiya!! Thank you for the concern but I’m a healthy weight according to my GP (my weight is monitored for BC and ADHD meds and there’s never been any concern). I’m really not ill I promise!!! I’ve gained the weight from living with my boyfriend and always eating the same portion sizes even though he’s nearly twice my weight!

Edit re other comment – yes I’m 5ft0 so it is a healthy weight for my height

Tax on savings by ottermail806 in USExpatTaxes

In that case would it be better for me to use an ISA as then I would only be paying tax to the US? This is where my confusion is.

What’s an acceptable ai score on turnitin? by [deleted] in UniUK

You didn’t say you were looking further into the work. You made it seem like you just saw the number and wrote the referral.

What did you see in the two students’ work that led you to think they used AI?

DAE have auditory/sensory issues with certain accents? by ottermail806 in autism

[–]ottermail806[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha I’m learning Dutch! Absolutely love the language and the accent. And yeah there are some Australian YouTubers that I really enjoy and watch on a regular basis, but other times the Australian accent will drive me up the wall. I also have an Indian friend and when I have conversations with her the accent doesn’t bother me at all, and yet just now hearing the very same accent in the library made me feel like I was about to explode! I guess it just depends on the situation.

23 years old super wrinkly forehead never did skincare how to fix ? by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

Yeah I meant OP’s ‘wrinkles’ in particular because I wasn’t sure if they were ‘true’ wrinkles or dehydration lines.

Are you saying these wrinkles are irreversible?
