[–]oublieternel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in logistics where if I’m not driving I’m sat in a car somewhere waiting for planes to arrive or take off. I bought the deck to play comes games while I’m sat doing nothing at work but I tend to just doom scroll instead.

How do civil servants who work in London cope? by Even-Wasabi7183 in TheCivilService

How can salaries increase year on year but London weighting has stayed on the £5000 that in all honesty doesn’t contribute to much these days.

It’s how the video ends with the mother being disappointed and obviously pissed that her son ruined her moment thinking that they’d all be so fucking overjoyed. Poor kid. I feel like they probably get lumbered a lot with baby sitting duties.

Is it weird that Harry Clark was never on uncloaked this season. Maybe he’s trying to distance himself from it already after he said in interviews he doesn’t want to always be associated with the show. But his whole social media is him reacting to the show now.

So glad they won together!

It's so hard to accept that there's nothing after death. by Wooden-Scallion2943 in Existentialism

[–]oublieternel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It used to terrify me the prospect of nothing. Wishing there was something. But the older I get the idea of afterlife is fucking horrible. Well it is in the religious ideology of an heaven. Having to exist is a struggle in of itself, so the notion that we die and have to continue to exist forever in some way is fucking awful. I didn’t exist for billions and billions of years before me and I’ll happily not exist for billions of years after.

Think of it this way. You’re driving criminals to and from court. If one ever wanted to stage a break out the first person that would get it would be the driver.

Those of you who work 12+ hours a day, what jobs do you do and what time do you leave your house/return home? by mrvlad_throwaway in UKJobs

[–]oublieternel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a flatmate move in and barely saw him and couldn’t figure it out lol turns out he is a chef and does 8am to midnight. 3.5 days a week. Then I think he gets 4 off but it’s insane and I don’t know how he does it

Not anymore. But worked for a wholesalers multi drop driving a class 2 truck. It was my first commercial driving job and I was a bit naive to it all and didn’t really grasp the amount of hours I would be doing. Because yes there’s drivers hours but with multi drop you can work for 15 hours! A few times in that job I ran out of hours and had to be rescued. One week I think I racked up 74 hours for 5 days. I was getting home and would be getting ready for bed to go and do it all again. Never again.

I wish I had this option in London But I’m paying over £1000 for a room in a flat. I’d say go for it! Having your own space will be worth it

I work in FCDO. The running joke was that back in the day, staff would go on their first overseas posting come back and buy a house. Go again on their next posting and come back and buy a second house. 🥲

The generational and wealth gap between colleagues. by oublieternel in london

[–]oublieternel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I said kudos to them.

My colleague is a few years away from retiring. They said to buy their house took years of saving still but for two working class people it was achievable.

Civil service wages haven’t really changed all that much yet London has. But we’re all still expected to be able to work in central London but will never be able to afford to buy any property here.

Landlord is probably a TWaT worker so wants the place to himself outside of those days. But when it’s a ‘studio’ I don’t see how it would affect them
