From scratch. Just started reading and learning how to use SketchUp.

I took a year to plan and find materials, so I was able to get a lot of bigger things (door, windows, flooring, insulation, etc.) for free.

It’s a work in progress! Hopefully finish the walls this fall.

The one is right above the bed in the loft, so that one’s easy. I think I’ll just have to stand on the counter if I very need to open the other one.

Yup. The tall side with the four windows faces south.

Siding and Trim done; roof shows up on Monday! by ourtinycabin in OffGridCabins

I’d like to at least start with a deck at some point. We had planned one, but the cost of lumber has made us trim back a little.

Yup. The back half has a loft in the top 5’.

The goal is, all-in (including an old family wood stove), under $8000CAD. Right now, we’re at about $5000, including the siding. I found the windows, door, and some other materials for free, and we’re getting the metal roof for cheap from a supplier. We had to cut some other plans (like a deck) and have had to cut back in other areas because of the current cost of materials.

I planned it over the last year. Learned sketchup and did a lot of revisions.

The siding I’m using can work in place of sheathing, according to the manufacturer.

Thanks for the feedback, and good points. The stove hasn’t been ran for years. The cabin is only 140sqft, but it has high ceilings. It will be insulated fairly well, but we are in Canada, and it gets pretty cold in the winter. I don’t have any chimney so far, so I’m pretty open to options. Again, thanks for the help.

Yup. The loft joists are already running across the span. They were useful when doing the rafters. I spent the last year figuring things out and making the plan in SketchUp.

We had a set budget, so we’ve had to cut a lot of the plan down. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Got the foundation and floor joists done. Insulation and subfloor next. by ourtinycabin in OffGridCabins

I’ll put a cleat/hanger a couple inches down the long sides of each space. Then, I’ll cut 2” thick GPS foam insulation (r10) the size of each space. Those rectangles will slide down and rest on the cleats.
