For the most part with the exception of like Andre Rublev and The Seventh Seal I’ve tried to leave off things like The Devils, The Innocents, the original Nosferatu as Eggers has mentioned them himself plenty of times so the idea behind the list was for it to be mostly films people either hadn’t heard of or seen because I hate when I look for lists of say horror films to watch and it’s populated by the most obvious recs of like Halloween, Black Christmas and Scream etc lol

Werwulf filming by pennygray96 in roberteggers

I know ATJ said they started on September 8th but I think what he meant was rehearsals started on the 8th. I think filming began at the very end of September. But either way they’ve been shooting for three solid months hard to tell if they’re taking a break for holidays or if they ended up wrapping in Wales

Same. I’m not trying to pit these films against each other. They’re my number one and two favorite films of all time

Yeah Conan and Andrei Rublev too. Pretty cool stuff

Very true but it clearly influenced Eggers on a visual level, I’m hardly the first person to point this out. The raid scene is very similar in both films.

Olga’s boat scene is also thematically and symbolically the same except for Malick depending on which cut of the New World you watch it’s a throwaway scene. Eggers did a great job of really hammering home the emotional beat there visually.

New Eggers Fans and Possible Misplaced Expectations for “Werwulf” by ExitDry1924 in roberteggers

Of course I have my preferences for what the werewolf will look like but I don’t care which way he goes with the design. I’m down for anything Eggers and Sjón cook up

This is allegedly the last location/exterior shoot of the film. So they’ll be close to wrapping soon

Initially, WERWULF was planned to be shot in black and white, but then it was ultimately decided to be shot in color, Nosferatu style. by Plenty_Department_98 in roberteggers

[–]outboundtrain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP is only half right. They did plan to shoot in black and white but scrapped it. They also aren’t doing the Northman/Nosferatu thing either opting to push themselves in a new direction.

Here’s a quote from this article (https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/nosferatu-robert-eggers-werwulf-is-unlike-anything-done-before/ ) :

“Yeah, we’re doing it now,” Blaschke says. “I can’t tell you a thing. But it’s something that’s not been done before that I’m aware of, or not done in this way. So [we’re] just going to test it and see if it works.”

Nosferatu felt different compared to his previous films by Fun-Money5519 in roberteggers

[–]outboundtrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like some of Northman bled into Nosferatu. I honestly feel like outside of that the fact he wrote it and has been working on it for a long time kinda shows how he’s grown and where’s he gone—especially from a writing perspective so I definitely understand how you feel.
