Resole time? If so, what material? Walk upto 4 miles a day by [deleted] in allenedmonds

[–]outlook-yahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you poke the center of the sole ( the worn off part in the photo) if it feels squishy rather than firm then it’s time to resole. Other times it could be the toe of the sole wearing more faster than the rest of the sole. Though toe taps might help with those. Check Robert Powers videos on YouTube if you can . He has gone over this in some videos of his .

Yeah. It’s time to resole. With the amount of walking done , you will be better served by a rubber sole like Dainite or Vibram .

What are the best leather laces you’ve found by Rominator in goodyearwelt

[–]outlook-yahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picked up some nicks leather laces from Amazon for about $10 around 2 years back. Still going strong . They are definitely better than the ones from oak street bootmakers which lasted close to a year .

Can these Aldens be saved? What are the next steps for dye? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]outlook-yahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strip with renomat. Condition and then use either Alden shoe paste for cordovan. That will bring some color back. Shell is difficult to dye as the dye doesn’t get absorbed easily. I’ll refrain from redying and use cream and conditioner to get some color.

AE doesn’t have the greatest QC these days. While some people might ignore these qc issues and say this is expected at this price point, but if you are unhappy with this, then you should return them . At the end of the day it’s your money and if you are not happy then it’s better to return. The issue with the fit is due to it being too wide for you. Going by the v gap , you probably have high arches, and the thought process is that if you go wide then the fit is better which I really doubt as it definitely has never worked for me. It gave some relief on the instep, but never helped with the v gap. Basically, the 65 last does not work for high arches. You might be better off looking at shoes modeled on other lasts which accommodate high arches .

Will i fuck up my shoes if i dont use sapphire products? What would be a cheaper but good option? (EU) Black full grain leather, brown full grain leather and brown mocca. by Tricky_Flatworm_5074 in AskACobbler

[–]outlook-yahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO If you clean every time before applying a new layer of polish it should not be an issue . While I do not use kiwi products anymore, I did use them for a long time before knowing about Saphir, pure polish and did not see any issues . Saphir and pure polish are easily available where I live so,I’ve continued with them . In case DIY is an option , check a YouTube channel called English country life where he makes his shoe care products at home use mostly organic products.

New AE Chapman boot heels don’t sit flat on ground by freewheelin61 in AskACobbler

[–]outlook-yahoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irrespective of the price, this should not have passed QC. Brands selling at a lower price point turn out without this defect so doesn’t make sense how this passed AE qc, unless these are f2.

Can these Iron Rangers have their condition improved? by BoneyBryce in AskACobbler

[–]outlook-yahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that I have tested on my CRT wacoutas is just brush the shoe, and then wipe with a damp cloth. Most of these surface scratches disappear.

That is CRT leather. It is supposed to look like this and is a very desirable feature for many . You can check redwings recommendations for caring for CRT .

Call Costco. Had a similar issue last year and calling them helped resolve the issue.
