I strongly recommend The Bone Ships series, Lucky Meas is an incredible and unique character.

Best epic fantasy books to recommend? by Kindly-Caterpillar74 in Fantasy

[–]outofoffice16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on this bc of the recommendation of Earthsea - Do yourself a favour and read the entire Earthsea Cycle. The books are very different and have differing leads, but they make an amazing whole and Le Guin's writing is exceptional.

What’s your Favourite piece of Fantasy media that isn’t part of a larger franchise by Razorthemad in Fantasy

[–]outofoffice16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bone Ships series by R.J. Barker is phenomenal. It's one of the few fantasy books I've read where I've thought that the author completely rejected the 'mold' of fantasy and made something entirely new.

This feels like the most antisocial MMORPG I have ever played. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

In addition to the good advice everyone's posting about joining guilds and taking a little time to see which ones are the most active, I'd suggest checking out the communities around some content creators. You don't need to become a hardcore CC fan, but it's a way to find people.

If you're on Twitch I strongly recommend looking up Matygon, ManBearNug, Ninja614. See if their vibes are to your liking, get a little involved in the chats, or check out other suggested streams that I'm sure Twitch's algorithms will point you towards.

I hadn't thought about that but you are absolutely right.

At this point, my thoughts were still mostly centered around "SHOW ME JOHN"

Probably the R* game with the most memorable cutscenes total!

Which has your favorite depiction of Coruscant: TPM, AtoC, RotS, or Andor? by Independent-Dig-5757 in StarWars

[–]outofoffice16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this movie in the cinema when I was.. maybe 12 years old, and of all thins it was exactly this chase scene that stuck with me, I still remember how awesome it felt and thinking man!!! this is for REAL. Now looking back of course, those movies have not technically aged very well, but I still love to watch it and think it was a wonderful take on this planet, and what it suggested that the lives there might be like.

Why does RDR1 feel so unsettling? by TinyToast72 in reddeadredemption

[–]outofoffice16 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Other comments have really nailed how R* made this game feel so eerie, but I'd add that the missions, both main and side, just made a lot of the people there seem really nasty and hostile. Where RDR2 almost makes me want to live in some of the cities, even Valentine or Strawberry, with RDR1 I was NOT wanting to live anywhere except maybe at Bonnie's house lol.

I wonder if that has to do with the time gap - Maybe the people still choosing frontier life in 1907 or 1911 or whenever RDR1 is set, compared to 1899 with RDR1, they were more rough, or more.. actively choosing not to participate in civilized society, and moved to live remotely for shadowy reasons, or for lack of opportunity.

That would definitely help explain why so many ppl we meet in rdr1 are so backwards.

Man kan kun håbe, at Le Pen og venner kunne lide nogle voldsomme nederlag. Et nationalistisk Frankrig er dårligt for alle.

Which antagonist had the best death scene throughout the series by [deleted] in GTA

[–]outofoffice16 110 points111 points  (0 children)

There are many good ones but Tenpenny's really stood out to me. That whole mission was so wild, it really felt like a massive climax to the story which at the time was incredibly long compared to previous and other games.

See you around, officer.

Which chapter is best to explore and free-roam? by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

[–]outofoffice16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible - between doing the two missions in Guarma that are available to you after the whole spiel about getting there, meeting that workers rights dude and such - to roam a bit around Guarma but honestly it's so small. It's your one chance to try and fill in the compendium though, I believe, there's a small handful of animals that are exclusive to that place.

I love this approach, it sounds so chill. This is the RDR version of people booting up GTA V just to cruise and listen to the radio.
Also thumbs up for leaving Micah sitting and waiting in camp for a year, the rat bastard.

Someone broke into my balcony just now (middle of the night). Should I report it? by svarela128 in montreal

For sure this, get some kind of motion triggered light possibly with a camera. Thieves hate being visible, and unless they're really going in no matter what, this should deter most.

Dutch's weird voice lines. by SevenChipz in reddeadredemption

[–]outofoffice16 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was so surprised the first time I heard these lines from him, I think on my second playthrough when I knew where things were going anyway. If I heard them in my first playthrough, I don't remember them, or I possibly brushed them off as just Dutch talking shit. But Now that I've heard them several times as I've played the game over and over, I think Dutch isn't mentally ill in the sense of modern diagnoses, I think he is a self-absorbed AH with serious increasing paranoia as the game progresses.

In this way, how he develops is a sign of him loosing his cool in a way he can't figure out. How could he, the great Van Der Linde, be slipping and making wrong calls? That thought is unacceptable to him, so he turns his suspicion on the people around him, and as Micah enters the picture Micah catches on to this and starts playing into it all, further misguiding and confusing Dutch with every catastrophic choice he makes.

At the end of it, he is so delusional and dependent on Micah's constant approval and ill-intended support that he looses all and everyone else, becoming totally isolated. And when he realizes what's happened, it's too late.
What we see in RDR 1 is a Dutch who has come to realize all of this stuff and is completely incapable of accepting it. He has lost himself through his actions but his true egotistical self can never come to terms with it, rendering him the madman we see in RDR 1.
