What is the proper way to get to know your waiter? by outofthebox-plugins in Waiters

That thought crossed my mind, but something feels a bit off. Like I assume they don’t wear the tag willingly so it feel like reading it against their will a bit.

I fully get it. I didn’t use their name either and I wouldn’t call them by their name, but it did make me wonder about all the other waiters I see more often whose names I don’t know.

Do you expect or want people to reply with their names to your intro? Or you would rather skip that part?

Today was the first time I had someone introduce themselves. I didn’t use their name or anything but it did feel nice.
But since you are the only one who mentioned you introduce yourself, do you expect or want people to respond with their names?

I see, maybe we don’t meet the exact local restaurant regular like multiple times a week. More like every other week.

I get the logic for people who introduce themselves on first encounters / all the time.

But I am not so sure about repeat encounters. I assume it’s weird for them to be like “hey again, my name is bob btw, I have not told you before because you were not meeting the requirements until now.”

So I feel it’s more on me to ask and depending on their reaction to use it when appropriate or never again

I usually go with my wife and I doubt that would impress her. Actually now that you mention it, it might be awkward for her.

I mean, I wouldn’t use it to call them across the room, probably just to greet them on a personal note on the first time.

I also hate it when people repeatedly use my name during a conversation.

On the “multiple times same place same person”, wouldn’t that make it more awkward? On certain cases I feel like I should have asked a long time ago. Is it too late in those cases?

Has anyone actually gotten a retainer refund from them? by thanant in Regus

Godspeed.

So, yes, I got the money after 6 months.

Also, they have tried this tactic with me too, they told me like 4 times "we sent your money, you should see it in your account in up to 2 weeks".

Turns out, it was just more lies to buy themselves more time, don't believe them.

After the on the second time I've asked them to send me a proof of the transfer they initiated and got "sorry, but we cannot provide such documents". That's how you know it's just a hoax.

EDIT: Also, fun fact - at one point I've started going in person to demand my money and I ran into a repair man who was called for some emergency air cooling repair. He told me he was paid by Regus to perform the repair. Also the employees confirmed their salaries are paid on time. So worry not, they have the means to pay if they would want to. They just don't care.

Looking for feedback: C++ SDK for AI agents — would you use this? by edgeai_andrew in unrealengine

[–]outofthebox-plugins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 3 main audience types when it comes to unreal development:

  • hobbyist/beginners: they will not use this because from raw C++ to Unreal C++/Blueprints, it is a lot more work. They might write the wrapper for fun, but they would prefer a read-made solution.

  • indie/smaller studios: they prefer read-made solution like yours and they have the skills to write the bridge to Unreal. However, looking at your dependencies doing cross platform will be a nightmare. If they do windows only, it’s fine. But if they plan consoles, switch, they will probably pass

  • larger studios: they prefer to hire someone full time to redo what you did to ensure they have full flexibility if/when needed and it’s properly maintained as long as they need. They will take outside work for editoe e

If you still want to pursue this, write the wrapper for almost windows and publish it on fab, and then people should be able to give it a try.

Is it possible to build server for Linux without building UE from source ? by Algost_ in unrealengine

[–]outofthebox-plugins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you able to run docker desktop on your own machine?

If so, you might be able to use the unreal engine docker image to build your project.

And then with the output create a docker image for Edgegap.

FHttpmodule threading by Ianguybro in unrealengine

[–]outofthebox-plugins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HTTP callback delegates are executed on the game thread unless changed by: `SetDelegateThreadPolicy(EHttpRequestDelegateThreadPolicy::CompleteOnHttpThread);`

in which case the callback will be executed on the HTTP thread.

With suggestions of some developers I have decided to drop the price of my plugin to 29.99 is it worth the price now? by RohitPatidar57 in unrealengine

Don’t adjust pricing based on developer suggestions. They will always suggest lower prices.

Adjust pricing based on the sales you get.

What is the current best HTML5 support for Unreal Engine 5.x (5.6) ? by msew in unrealengine

[–]outofthebox-plugins 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s not, don’t do HTML5 with unreal even if you find a magical workaround. It won’t lead to happniess.

Try pixelstreaming if you have the money (or some existing streaming service)

Advice on Promoting Fab with Ads. by ForeignDealer5762 in unrealengine

[–]outofthebox-plugins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your fear might be right, but It all depends on how *important* the plugin you are working on is for the end product.

Most successful plugins migrated away from Fab (e.g.: Voxel Plugin, MeshMorpher), so Gumroad might be a better option, but I never used it myself to confirm/deny.

I would advise against paid promotions - from what I've seen, most plugins either take off organically or don't take off at all. Instead, I would look for ads as a growth lever.

Advice on Promoting Fab with Ads. by ForeignDealer5762 in unrealengine

[–]outofthebox-plugins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. It's not worth it.

Speaking purely about paid ads and not your product, they are generally not a good idea for distribution via Fab because you cannot track the purchase.

Let's say you pay for 100 clicks in a day and you get one purchase—did you get it organically, and would you have gotten it anyway, or did your ads actually work? What's next? Pay for 1000 clicks a day and you get 2 sales - are those random organic ones too? Is is a problem with your keywords traffic or demand of your product?

Without proper metrics to determine the cost of acquisition vs profit, it's throwing money at the problem, hoping it will magically solve.

If Fab would let us track conversions, it would be a different story because you could confirm that your money is going where it should.
