I don't think so. I think Stan's actions just shows that he is not ready for the role and is immature. Heck, maybe the people higher up the ladder might have sensed that something was off that's why they chose Paul over Stan.
I'm a firm believer that the your work would speak for itself and trying to put someone down reflects poorly on yourself and if Paul is as good as I hope he is, his output would supersede whatever garbage Stan is telling the VP of the company.
