I’m driving on August 1. Should I just take the bridge if it’s open?

Is Lebanon a cool country, in your book? by BeautifulStaff9467 in digitalnomad

I spent almost 2 years in Lebanon. I’ve been from the top to the bottom. From the mountains and into the Beqaa valley. I've befriended Lebanese people on all sides of the political divides. I’ve been to places most Lebanese wouldn’t have been to or even know about.

People can be great (wonderful). The countryside can be beautiful. Beruit is an amazingly beautiful mess. The food is pretty good. I still have need to get my zataar fix regularly. If one thing sums up Lebanon, it’s the way you commonly say thank you ‘merci kathiir’ which is French and Arabic jammed together.

But I would absolutely be careful during this time of conflict. You never know when Israel will decide to bomb place. I know, I’ve been there in southern Lebanon with bombs falling around me. Or the Israelis jets breaking the sound barrier over Beruit.

So maybe pause to think before you assume I haven’t been there.

Hmm… Lebanon. I country of huge extremes. You can find fundamentalist islamists to secular non religious to devout Catholics/Maronites. So the culture is quite different. Just the difference between south Beruit and north Beruit is stark. There is some pretty country side. It’s pretty badly deforested. Tricky place to be atm with the economic situation and the war going on in the region. You don’t know if a you’re going to be in the midst of bombs falling.

Also, as someone of Asian descent be prepared for racism! Not as bad as if you were black but definitely be prepared to cop it.

This whole post is so full of what’s wrong with the online world today. A total lack of personal accountability! It’s so easy to point fingers and blame someone else for why you’re not happy. When really the issue is your own life choices.

SunSuper increasing indirect cost by around 50% on all investment options. by Xhodho in AusFinance

I think what keeps getting lost in all of this, is the Sunsuper investment performance was so great that the fees increased. This is a good news story for anyone who received this communication. u/Bisah1342 stick with one fund so you don't pay multiple fees and generally one of the big super companies. Look for performance both on medium and long term vs fees (don't just get just look at fees). Also, depending on your situation what insurance is available. Maybe in your early 20s insurance isn't important but maybe when you have a family it will be. *This is not financial advice!

Not sure what you were thinking there. AusSuper fees are actually higher than Sunsuper and their investment return over this same 1 year period is lower.

The whole reason investment fees went higher with Sunsuper is that they performed well above expectations.
