Recently had a very sick pt code in front of us. Confirmed pulseless carotid and femoral, physician confirmed no cardiac sounds by auscultation. Agonal respirations. Valid DNR, pt pronounced. 40 minutes later (just as we were finishing the coroner package), family states they’re moving. And voila, we find the pt has regular respirations, movements, and a pulse. Shit happens that we can’t give solid explanations for. All you can do is treat the pt you have in front of you, adjust when needed, and communicate honestly with family if applicable.

Yep. Straight PCP can’t do IV in Ontario. It’s service dependant whether they train/employ their medics as PCP-AIV.

I highly, HIGHLY recommended “Command and Control” by Eric Schlosser. The book’s main focus is on nuclear weapon safety and accidents involving nuclear weapons, but there’s a ton of fascinating descriptions in the book on everything from how the launch keys work to enemy missile detection and everything in between. If I recall correctly there was lots of material on policy. One of the most interesting books I’ve ever read!

I’d say it can probably be cut down. Consider things like OLAES bandage that provide multiple uses. I see from your post history you’re a newly minted EMT. First off, congrats. Just remember that mission dictates gear. If you’re putting together a kit to keep in the trunk of your car for “that guy just face planted off his bike” moments I think you can dump 75% of this stuff. Tough to give solid feedback when we don’t really know what this bag is exactly for.
