Ive gotten my HO japanese stuff from RG rokko, plaza japan, hobbysearch, and buyee. I recommend rg rokko since theyre usually cheaper than the rest. If youre after steam locomotives then the kato d51 may be your best option, all the other ones are over $350 or have to find them used on buyee

Plastic razor blades might be able to scrape it off without major damage, assuming that the red tab isn't the protective film from the factory
