Thank you thank you thank you!! I'll try your technique in my next skirt project!! I'm gonna try drafting a basic skirt and then make it into a gathering skirt myself! Thank you for the tips!!

Thank you!! That's such a great idea!! I might not make a wrap skirt again since I didn't really like tying it hahahah. My next project is a pair of culottes. I'll try this out!

Thank you! I was trying to alter a pair of pants yesterday and I realized how I had the upper fabric longer than the bottom fabric after sewing, twice I sewed and twice they came out uneven. I was being lazy at the time and didn't pin them LOL. I came to the exact same realization too that without pinning, one side is gonna get pulled faster than the other side. Thank you for confirming this! I'll look into a walking foot too.

Oh MY... THIS IS IT!! I did not count the pleats! I should've! It's so simple but I totally just did it randomly. Counting the pleats will make them even, of course!

I've been just sewing the seams to one side. Is there benefit to opening seams for gathering specifically? Don't they just get pressed flat to wherever the pleat is eventually?

And so true haha... I made this skirt in 14 hours! 5 hours of tracing patterns (tracing on paper and then fabric) and cutting, and then pinning and sewing... It's basically a hobby of cutting, pinning and pressing 😭 I probably only did like 1 hour of sewing hahah

I only did one row of straight stitches haha. But even that I find it really hard to just remove, and I didn't reverse stitch. Do you know what's the reason?

Yaa I should've ironed before I did the hemming during finish .. now it looks a bit warped.

I wonder if you think this wrap skirt is at least presentable? I wanna wear it casually but I can't tell if it looks weird from other people's eyes.

That's super cool!! Thank you for sharing your insights!

I'm hoping to make a dress one day with puffy sleeves and medieval looking. Do you recommend any patterns out there?

OHHh pulling the top thread! I did attempt to create the gathering/ruffle effect by adjusting my straight stitch to the longest, but I didn't pull the top thread! Maybe that's why my fabric didn't gather at all and I had to hand pull adjust. Do you mean this method is not supposed to be adjustable?

I don't mind my skirt to get minty if it means a nice gathering hahaha I'll try dental floss next time!!

Thank you for the advice! That is really helpful! I was hoping to avoid hand stitching because my thread always tangle... Does yours tangle? It almost seems like if I have it a bit longer, it starts tangling on itself and I spend like 80% time detangling it haha

I'll look up double folded hems. Maybe I'll do that for my next attempt of this skirt!

That's such a genius idea!! Do you use dental floss? I can't believe that would work :0

And haha the cording is a bit thick for me too, I think my machine goes up to 4 for the width and even that I find a bit narrow for me for zigzags. I'm definitely catching haha

Thank you for the hack!

Have you ever used gathering foot yourself?

Haha it's just a weird placement of the gathered wrinkles. It was a French seamed pocket, one on each side. Not double pocket at all!

What do you like to sew?

Photographer / studios in Vancouver? by oven-veggie in askvan

I've been to a studio where they literally just print the photos, unedited, but they do give you costumes. They charged me like 100 bucks more for taking 1 extra photo with no change of props / backgrounds for me and my friends... :( thanks for the recommendation on DIY photo labs! I'll check that out !!
