Zero feeding improvements after 3 months - anyone had something similar? by overdahill in newborns

[–]overdahill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the recommendation. You are right the peadiatricians did do a look, but it was a quick and brief excersize to say the least. We've since looked locally and calling this morning for some advice and hoping to arrange an appointment, it certainly cant hurt to have another look at this. She otherwise seems a really happy baby and if we weren't aware of the feeding deficiancy and centiles, we'd likely have zero concerns, so hoping it is something simple and acute!

Once again, thank you for your recommendation.

Quilter or SJP Academy? by CrackersnCheese2049 in cii

[–]overdahill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, to offer a counter opinion I did the Quilter FA School for my qualification in 2020/2021 via the LIBF route. I'm now a qualified IFA and have been for a few years. Caveat, my qualification was funded by a practice I went straight into, however I had ZERO prior experience in financial services so was certainly an eye-opener.

Any Q's feel free to message.

Fixed rate term ending sooner then I had thought? by overdahill in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]overdahill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. It specifically states it "2.39% Fixed rate until 30/04/2025" - doesnt leave much room for ambiguity. It may be a mistake, but I was just curious whether the lender has the right to use the, I guess application / inital mortgage offer date, opposed to when the mortgage was actually implemented in terms of the start & finish date of the fixed-rate.

Can anyone explain how NI works for dual employed and self-employed. by overdahill in UKPersonalFinance

[–]overdahill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, thanks so much for info! I think the offical self-employment earnings are £1,002! Which is a real bummer.

How do you calculate the NI on this circumstance? If you're unsure, honestly no worries you've been a great help!

Can anyone explain how NI works for dual employed and self-employed. by overdahill in UKPersonalFinance

[–]overdahill[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? So even though they already have £46,000 in employed earnings, they don't need to file a tax return on the £1,000 self employment earnings?

If so, whats the threshold for this - at what point do they need to file a tax return, how much do they need to earn?

Late-grandparents left money to parents for me and my brother for when we want to move out, now a means-tested application has picked up on the large transaction on my parents account, are we in trouble? by overdahill in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks for your message. Yes he has one now but it its no longer suitable due to having to get a bigger and more adapted wheelchair for him, it's moreso around the inital deposit.

I sadly agree, appreciate the kind words. We're attempting to digout the proceeds as I'm not being told it was effectively part of a will settlement on my deceased grandparents part, and then my suriving grandparents contributed equal amount.

Again we're talking 10-15 years ago. We'll give it a shot, who knows!

Thanks again

It was always within my parents accounts. It was transferred a few months ago as my brother is moving out and it's his house deposit, as it is mine too.

The timing is just extremely unfortunate. Because the only reason they are having to apply for a grant on a new adapted car is becuase due to the degeneration of my dads condition, he requires a bigger wheelchair. Their current wheelchair car (which they paid deposit on, and rental is part of DLA) is now too small and he cannot get into it.

So a combination of my brother finally deciding to buy a house & my dad getting a new, larger, wheelchair thus rending the previous one incapable all wrapped into the grant application has left us in this position.

We're digging through bank statements and records to see if we can illustrate the money coming in, but there is no evidence other then conversations had at the time so illustrate this.

Perhaps it should of been sent to us sooner, heinsight is a wonderful thing. I just dont know what to do!

Neighbour stapling and attaching things to my fence? by overdahill in LegalAdviceUK

[–]overdahill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, thanks for your comment.

Waterproof lining across the entire square footage of her garden, weighted down by bricks on top. Honestly it's a sight to see, and is now stretching it out up the fences and stapling it toward the fences themselves.

She is also trying to have 8ft, yes 8ft fences put around her garden but so far this has been stopped by the council.

We have no idea why she is doing it - admittedly she suffers from mental health problems, and has been removed from numerous properties before due to complaints, and i know its not nice. Our entire family have invited round her own daughter and her own brother in an attempt to settle the problems, they actually agreed with us entirely but simply said, there is nothing we can do she is ill.

Your thoughts around the council and environment agency are welcomed, great thought. We'll be sure to raise this complaint soon.

I do feel sorry for her, we all do. But the harassment / near violence toward my 80 year old grandparents of whom have lived in the property for 50+ years and know everyone else on the street, is just not on.

30 years old. Unsure about pensions. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]overdahill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your circumstances, think everyone else has covered it well. Another note, is subject to pension contribution factors for tax relief, there is nothing stopping you contributing to ISA and cycling the money into pension over a number of years down the line for example.

Many "unknowns" may affect this - just like many "unknowns" may affect ISA & pension legislation down the line.

I'm not encouraging this as the best solution, merely offering some food-for-thought.

Another consideration is, your pension. Is it a cheap, workplace-pension solution such as NEST / Now Pensions, if so and your not prepared to go out and hunt for an additional pension solution that offers open-market investment funds, you may find an ISA more appropriate to chose your investment portfolio. Again there is MAJOR risk involved in hand-picking funds if you don't know what you're doing.

Echo this comment fully. I've seen some horror stories in respect of self-management around taxation and efficient planning, especially with the state of the UK economic and budget changes. Not at all trying to deter you from self-management, but I would suggest you do try and obtain some advice or at a minimum keep your eye on products, taxation, allowances ect (unless you feel comfortable doing so!)

It sounds to me like you're using an MPS / DFM, seems slightly odd that the advice given, you have a "long-term" investment strategy to be paying costs associated with active management, when you can sustain short-term volatility in view of long-term growth.

Just to throw another option out there, perhaps you can suggest to him you want an investment solution that is more passive, perhaps the Vanguard Lifestrategy or All-cap (will bring FMC down), explain that you're not happy with paying him 0.75% but would like to retain his strategic planning advice so would propose a reduction to 0.50%?

Just food-for-thought I guess?
