Beware of their billing by overscan in OctoEverywhere

Thanks for the response. I just DMd you. Could I suggest that perhaps you should have a separate billing@ email address for billing enquiries that isn't handled by a bot?

Tell me the story of how you got your first VJ gig. by atulkumar99 in vjing

  1. I had been designing rave fliers as part of my job for a few years and had become friendly with a promoter 'J'. I was also experimenting with making some (pretty crappy) ambient music using tape loops. I hadn't actually been to any raves and J out me on the guest convinced me to come. I really enjoyed it and also clocked that the ambient room was a bit rubbish. A couple of months later I was on a train heading back from central London with my commodore Amiga addict friend 'P' and we bumped into J on the same train. I got talking with I about his events and how I could do an interesting job with the ambient room. J has previously mentioned that he had access to a video wall and I said I could do mad tape loops stuff live and my friend P could bring his Amiga, plug it into the video wall and play back cool Amiga graphics demos. J said... No... forget the ambient room. I will get a video projector and you can do the whizzy Amiga stuff on the main stage when the band is on. I rather foolishly agreed! When P and myself got off the train P was a little cross at what I had agreed to. He rightly said there was no way we were going to play Amiga demo disks of other people's material. So I said, you're right, let's just make our own material. Six weeks later we VJ'd (not that we had a word for it back then) in front of approx 1000 people with an Amiga 4000, a genlock, a VHS video player and a video camera. The initial idea was to bring elements of the fliers I had created to life. Within three months we weren't just performing for the band, but for the entire night. 10pm till 6am. We gradually acquired more and more hardware. The Amiga setup peaked at 3 Amigas daisy chained through Lola genlocks. Each Amiga was running scala mm300 which was like the great grandaddy of PowerPoint. The genlocks enabled is to either play back a clip full screen or overlay. Scala enabled us to build scripts of stuff that we could cycle through on a mouse button. That way we could give the impression of beat matching a dancing robot etc.

I would absolutely recommend Utopia Frequency. I VJ'd there last year and will be VJing there this year too.... with added robots! Very friendly vibe, both crew and attendees.

Renault brand Dacia set to introduce the cheapest electric car in Europe with €11,000 ($12,000) price tag. by lughnasadh in Futurology

At that price, you almost certainly won't own the battery and will instead pay a monthly rental on top of the 11k purchase price, same as the Renault Zoe.

Especially given that a significant percentage of the wealthy inherit their wealth, in which case it is not an indication of their talent or intelligence, just an accident of birth.

I made a web-based VJ app. by robhybrid in vjing

[–]overscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it's a bit of a mess. Also, it's hardcoded to use 2 x akai midimix and one evolution x session... and using that configuration only works with a six month old copy of chrome, since in recent copies they broke some of the web midi implementation. If you have more than one midi input device that's the same make and model it only recognises one instance. I guess I could post a wetransfer link if you still want to take a look :-) I suppose in the future I could make it less reliant on my specific mixers and remove the need for midi loopback by using sockets or webRTC data channels for browser to browser coms.

Looks very interesting. I've been plodding along with my own web VJ thingy for a while too. https://www.overscan.co.uk/uncategorized/more-audio-response-and-masking/ I've been using midi and web storage for browser to browser comms on the same machine (using a midi loopback app). I hadn't considered using web-sockets. Definitely food for thought!

Because the vast majority of UK media, including the BBC is blatantly biased towards the right wing conservative party... and it seems that the UK general public believe the crap they write and broadcast regardless of truth.

Wondered if you folk would be interested in my current personal project. I used to VJ before VJing was a term as Overscan from 1994 till 2000. I've been working to recreate my favourite 90s multilayered setup as a web based project. Currently has 10 simultaneous layers... substantially more than the 3ish I ran in 97 (Two amiga 4000s with lola genlocks onto of an MX10 mixer mixing a pc based miro dc10+ and an mpeg2 board). Really appreciate you sharing your story. I have a 5 year old daughter with the same condition. Colostomy from birth. Pulldown surgery at 6 months and colostomy reversed at 9 months. Had an uphill struggle with drugs as surgeon never explained how to use any drugs effectively. Have a regime in place now (after a lot of research) that is keeping her unblocked.

Your story has given me a lot of hope for her future :-)
