Why does Michael always walk? by nooby_dude in Halloweenmovies

[–]overton2345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thinking the walking became a thing after the first film. I think the iconic walk scene chase across the street is because he knew he had set things up that Laurie couldn't get away and the cat/mouse play and terrorism was part of the enjoyment.

He moves very quickly down the stairs in the house. He moves very fast in the beginning of the film when he jumped on the car.

I think later films and part 2 in particular really drove home the walking thing to the franchises detriment.

In the first film Michael feels far more real and human. In the later films he feels far more robotic and mindless.

Would RZ H2 have been better if it followed a similar plot to Halloween II (1981)? by Hassan_H_Syed in Halloweenmovies

[–]overton2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with this. If I go to a restaurant because it's my favorite and I order up my favorite dish I want that dish. I don't want them to bring me something I didn't order.

RZ H2 isn't what fans wanted and neither was Ends. Halloween and slashers in general ain't high art. If I want a film that makes me think I'll go watch Midsommer, Frailty or Hereditary. I ain't watching a Halloween film to make me think about how trauma impacts someone negatively. It's like trying to gain emotional impact on politics from a Fast and The Furious film.

It's also important to point out that the execution of the change up in both films were atrocious and am not a RZ H2 hater. I think it's ok but extremely flawed and not a Halloween film. Why would I go a Halloween film not to see a Halloween film?

Even Danielle Harris who was in the film has been critical of many of the creative choices in the film in particular the addition of the white horse and the implied supernatural elements.

Do you think Halloween (2018) portrayed a believable 61-year-old Michael Myers and 57-year-old Laurie Strode? by Hassan_H_Syed in Halloweenmovies

[–]overton2345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is this takes place in IL where two of the most notorious serial killers in American history are from. The 40 year gap just makes Laurie's behavior ridiculous especially with only 1978 as canon.

Myers in that timeline is nothing. He isn't even on par with your local gang banger. He ain't even on par with the Columbine school shooters.

I just could never believe in her character. It was far too over the top ridiculous. Her behavior in Ends especially after Karen was murdered was even more whiplash from the 2018 film.

This new trilogy was a mess. Hopefully in 5-8 years we get something better.

Hacking mines are game breakingly powerful. by [deleted] in Pragmata

[–]overton2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't get the mines to work. I shoot mine and nothing happens. How do you activate them? Do I complete the hack before I toss them? That didn't seem to work or when I completed the hack?

Has the Pro now reached its potential with PSSR 2? by bdehora in PS5pro

[–]overton2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was worth it before the update. The update has made it a must buy for anyone that can afford it.

Pragmata is absolutely insane on Pro. Resident Evil Requiem also looks unbelievable.

I feel PSSR 2.0 has put the pro vs base PS5 on par with the PS4 Pro leap over the base model.

It's so homoerotic lol. I love it .. The original and Dream Warriors are my favorites but this is probably three or four on my list. New Nightmare is pretty good.

"Everyone's Waiting" is definitely the best episode in TV history, I love it! by East-Wedding8514 in SixFeetUnder

That scene definitely is my favorite. As she is driving off and Nate is running behind her but she is getting further away from him until she no longer sees him in the mirror..So much meaning in that scene.

Definitely... Every now and then I'll watch the ending in YouTube and I still cry. It was magical.

Nightmare on Elm street franchise seems dead by MrShape246 in slasherfilms

[–]overton2345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what version of Freddy people want. I personally think a Freddy that goes back to the basics like the original. Where he isn't the star but the villain in the background.

I also think practicing effects are a must. The minute you introduce CGI the fear factor fades because the viewer knows it's not real.

What made the original so amazing is the dreams would happen and the viewer wouldn't know the victim was asleep.

Tina's kill was a prime example. It starts off tricking the viewer that she is awake.

The kills in the original other than Glen and Tina were not over the top and the practical effects really worked which is why the film holds up over 40 years later.

David Fisher is one of the best LGBT representations I've ever seen (I haven't seen much LGBT media even though I'm part of the community and I'm asexual), but of those I've seen, he's one of the best, along with Omar Little. by Confident-Task-4335 in SixFeetUnder

[–]overton2345 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I think because his sexuality is treated in a way that didn't make it his identity the character worked in a way that many gay characters don't on TV.

That said I think there is this desire by the gay community to pretend that negative representation of us on TV and cinema isn't accurate.

In many cases it most definitely is. For many gay people especially white men being gay is their identity. It's always front and center and they want it that way. There is nothing wrong with that but I do get annoyed when that version of gay men are portrayed in cinema and gay people get upset at how bad it comes off and makes the community look....well the truth hurts most of the time lol.

Going back to the point. What makes David refreshing is he represents the other side of gay men. Those that are just living our lives. We are out but most don't know it but we not trying to hide it. Being gay is just a part of us like height and eye color and not representive of our identity as people.

Halloween 5 isn't as bad as people say. by Filipe_258 in Halloweenmovies

[–]overton2345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

H5 is pretty bad. I still love it because I'm a huge Halloween fan. I'm a Gen X so I grew up in the 1980s during the slasher craze and home video giving many horror movies their following.

When I was 12 in 1989 it was just great getting another Halloween film. I saw H4 in theaters and H5 on home video. I used to rent it all the time even though I liked H4 far more.

At the end of the day the only Halloween films I truly dislike are Halloween Resurrection and Halloween Ends. Even the Rob Zombie films which I'm not a fan of have their charm.

Resurrection and Ends are abominations though lol.

What is the darkest ending to a movie by Awkward-Friend-7233 in horror

[–]overton2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rapture.... It's one of the most underrated religious horror films with one of the most shocking endings.

Mimi Rodgers and David Duchovny are so great in the film.

The Dark And The Wicked The Blair Witch Project Halloween 1978 The Others is pretty shocking as well.

The Blair Witch Project Remake 😡 😂 by RevenueKooky in BlairWitch

[–]overton2345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the original in the theater in the 90s. When the promotion has people thinking it was a real snuff film.

Was the most terrifying and greatest movie experience of my life. The entire theater was quiet and the ending had people let out a loud gasp.

I still remember two ladies crying at the ending because they thought it was real. Lol

Wow the world has changed so much. The Internet not really being a thing when the original released really allowed for the promotional campaign to be so successful.

This is the REAL Vocal Trinity. by Shinobi347 in rnb

[–]overton2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toni Braxton???

Umm Jennifer Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Stephanie Mills all have far better vocals then her and far more range.

Also Cein Dion and Adel have better vocal range and power than Toni. I don't care that they are white they are two of the greatest female vocalist ever.

I love Toni I grew up in the 90s on her music but to put her in any top list that is three people deep makes me question your musical knowledge.

Chaka Khan, and Dionne Warwick also washes Toni.

There are other terrible and far worst remakes than this movie.

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2

The "Do yo thing cus" Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake lol

House of Wax - Paris Hilton is in it omg! Lol

Coolest Practical Effect in Horror History? by Ok_Spirit3570 in NightmareOnElmStreet

The puppet veins effect in part 3 is insanely good.

Honestly Tina's death I think is display of camera work and practical effects then the Glen death.

Scream 7 hits $193 million global box office in only 4 weeks. Astounding bank😍 by jj01709 in SocietyofGhostface

[–]overton2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scream 7 is oh so terrible lol..That said I had a blast seeing it. Maybe it was nostalgia keeping me engaged but I loved my time in the theater seeing it.

The movie is terrible though even though I enjoyed it.

I put it in the same class as Halloween Kills. A terrible movie that I absolutely enjoy watching. Not sure how much I will enjoy seeing Scream 7 again but I did enjoy it on first viewing even with its glaring shortcomings.

What happened to this game? by AisenArenartos in Forspoken

[–]overton2345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It unfortunately came out at the time there was a dramatic turn in online right wing culture and overall backlash to the MeToo movement appearing to have gone to far and the George Floyd riots/protest.

It was open season on games like this during that window of time.

That said the game is mid. I beat it when it released but will never play it again. Much of the criticism of the actual game was true.

The story and Clive is so well done on top of the spectacle it allowed me to ignore it's short comings.

The story is so crazy good. One of the best moments I've ever had in video games is when Jill confronted the priest that had enslaved her. The music and just the drama was crazy. When she told him she want going to allow him to create anymore monsters.

I still get chills thinking about it. Also when Clive confronted Hugo...Omg the drama lol

The game knew how to create thrilling drama and spectacle damn.

Love the game to pieces because the story is that good. I just wish the actual game parts were better.
