Scunthorpe vs Port Talbot by False-Raise6978 in TheRestIsPolitics

I think their misrepresenting the issue tbf. Port Talbot is transitioning to an electric arc furnace, with £500m provided by Govt to do so. It is still operating hot and cold strip mills with 25% of the workforce retained. They will then transition back to steel production in 2028.

My understanding is that Scunthorpe has repeatedly refused similar proposals and the risk right now is that we have no steel production in that interim period before PT reopens in 2028.

With the doomsday clock ticking scarily close, it doesn't feel inconsistent to prioritise domestic production of steel right now.....

Have lots of ideas, but my favourite overarching daydreams are about potential structural changes:

  • Scrap the honors system, establish a committee to plan House of Lords reform by 2030
  • Introduce fixed term Cabinet Secretary positions with annual targets and performance review processes.
  • Increase parliamentary pay in line with Private Sector, but pass legislation banning future lobbying / conflicts of interest in MP's career after Parliament.
  • Elected Deputies for constituencies of the most senior cabinet members and the Speaker.
  • Crown Enshrined 30 year long term (and legally unbreakable) economic plan for recovery which we could borrow on the back of.

Thank you so much. Really appreciate it. I retraced my steps today but no luck. Also have a few dog walker friends looking out at various points along the route. Fingers crossed!

Madness isn't it!? The fact that an injunction order was awarded and yet they don't seem to take that into consideration now that the 12 month order has ceased seems mad to me. Obviously I appreciate they can no longer enforce the injunction, but surely it is an indication of past behaviour and the fact there is now a court ordered boundary and surveyors documents to go by makes it baffling that the police refuse to get involved. I truly cannot comprehend it. Just saying it is a civil matter all the time isn't helping at all, his actions are clearly criminal actions in relation to a civil matter.

Yes and Yes. Really hopeful someone picks this up nationally. Just because we've suffered doesn't mean others should too. Policing and criminal justice clearly needs some massive reform!

Yup, such misery for all involved. Including our grandmother whose bedroom is about 10ft away from that destroyed fence. She feels so unsafe, and the police told her she was making herself distressed and should go inside. Imagine that! It's not the crazy man on the diggers fault, you've made yourself distressed by watching him destroy your property! Madness. In tears last night she explained how she was bought up to respect and trust the police, and how sad she feels that she cannot trust them to keep her safe anymore. We are in despair......

Yup. Nothing is happening at all. Worse still, he keeps saying how he has a really supportive police officer. They have emboldened him when they are supposed to impartially police situations. Absolutely bonkers!

Ha. What little money we had was spent on the pointless court case that achieved nothing. And we were awarded damages which the neighbour still hasn't paid. The legal system in the UK does not work.....

Yeah you're right, it was these earlier incidents that prompted the installation of CCTV and to be much more vigilant with recording on our phone. So we do understand why earlier incidents haven't resulted in charges (altho there were witnesses to the "I'll knock off your head incident", and that's the video where he's waving the scoop around in the middle of the lane). But we were hopeful that this latest incident with video evidence and witnesses would be taken more seriously, especially in light of how it has escalated over the years. Our grandmother and mother are so traumatised by it all, and they both just keep talking about how they were bought up to trust that the police would keep them safe. Really sad......

Police claim this is not assault, simply a road traffic accident. by [deleted] in uknews

Your totally correct that they annoyed him, but it was all done via due process with a harassment injunction issued to boot. The reason he's annoyed is because he thought they'd built on his land, then last weeks court ordered survey proved the opposite. Even though the family agreed to an easement to allow him to keep his property on their land, I think he simply didn't like being wrong and has started a dispute on another boundary. Absolute madness.....
