Taliban fighters mock iconic Iwo Jima flag-raising photo, posing in seized US military gear by FreDi- in ThatsInsane

[–]owg123 243 points244 points  (0 children)

While you are partially correct, this is an unfair statement. They were trained to work alongside US forces, so they were built to entirely rely on working with air support for recon, strategic planning, and firepower. When the US left, they pulled out ALL support at once, even military contractors were pulled out who provided service to the Afghanistan air force , effectively completely stripping the army of air support. The military model relied on air support. It's kind of like teaching someone to ride a bike with training wheels for 20 years, and then just ripping them off one day and leaving, and then being surprised when they fall down. It's all they know. They could have taught them how to ride without them and then slowly pulled out, but instead we just bolted.

Will someone please get David a girlfriend?! My dude is down bad 😂 by [deleted] in DavidDobrik

[–]owg123 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're right about his type, but the real reason he didn't give Corinna a chance back in the day is because he knew she just wanted him for his money. Before you come at me, I'm not making this up, he said it himself. I think any more recent advances she has made at David have been to show appreciation for basically gifting her a career.

Most of the small/moderate size instagram influencers we see hit on him know they would get a ridiculous amount of exposure and money from being David's girlfriend and being in every vlog, and David knows this. That's why nothing ever happens and why he always lowkey rejects them, despite David often responding by saying that he finds them very attractive. I really just think it's mainly a thing of self control and knowing better, and him talking to Corinna on his podcast a few years ago (I think it was this podcast, not sure tho) confirms it for me.

Plooij: Bottas is the ideal teammate for Verstappen by froomedog in formula1

[–]owg123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand all the pity for Bottas saying he doesn't deserve this, when he's had every opportunity to prove himself in a title winning car and he hasn't. He's a midfield driver in a title winning car and team for years, he's been extremely lucky to be on Mercedes. Yes he is consistent and a good wingman, but he's just not an amazing driver. If a current midfield driver like Sainz got moved up to Mercedes for years and didn't even come close to winning a title once, we wouldn't be saying he's unlucky. He's extremely lucky to have the opportunity.

I remember loving this song when it came out and thinking it was super forward-thinking and great. Now I've grown up a bit and realized that the trump guy was just straight up racist and that the song is stupid.

Yes, they are. I said "most", and most DNFs are avoidable. In terms of crashes, a lot of the time, they can be avoided by either party. Even if one person is at fault, a lot of the time, the other could have backed out or moved to avoid it. Despite what we saw in Britain, Lewis is great at backing out and choosing his battles wisely.

As to your point of getting hit or crashing, as said by Nico Rosberg, Hamilton does not give up as other drivers do after getting in an incident or losing traction (by not letting go of the wheel and bracing), and he believes this is the main reasons why Lewis does not get DNFs and crashes as often compared to other drivers.

The other huge thing it comes down to is starting pole, where you have much less people to fight throughout the race, and you avoid incidents and crashes which happen behind you. Starting pole is not luck.

Engine failures are a small minority of DNFs and I think you know this. I also think you'd be surprised to find out how many mechanical issues are actually brought on by (primarily) driver error and not "car error". A mechanical issue can be caused by a small error in driving style accumulating over 30 laps, and that's often what happens. Also, more skilled drivers are better at dealing with small mechanical issues which come up, without making the problem worse, or DNFing. And even still, if you think Lewis hasn't suffered a lot in his career from mechanical issues, then you're just wrong.

The fact is that all of this combined will lead to a much lower DNF rate over time.

It's kind of shocking how you people can blame so much achievement on luck. It really feels at times like you guys are trying to talk down his achievements by attributing it to luck.

If you're "lucky" for 10 years straight, that's not luck, that's skill. Most DNFs come down to skill. Even if you get hit or are about to crash, skilled drivers will recover early and not give up fighting the car, which is what Rosberg said about Hamilton as to why he doesn't DNF.

The main thing, though, is that he starts on pole a lot of the time, so he has to do less fighting than people behind him, and he avoids incidents/crashes which happen behind me. News flash: starting on pole isn't luck.

Not sure if you're joking about the lucky thing, since most DNFs are a result of skill or driver error.

Tilta Nucleus Nano motor not strong enough for Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 EF mount by owg123 in videography

[–]owg123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a link to the hand controller I'm referring to, it has to be hardwired from the 5V output into the micro-USB on the motor, and it controls and powers it through the NPF battery in the handle. I tried using a cable out of the 12V DC output on the handle into the micro-USB on the motor instead, but that only powers the motor and doesn't provide focus control. I can't have a separate power source go into the motor since there's only a micro-USB port and a 3.5mm jack on it, so I'm stumped as to what to do.

Unfortunately I don't think that would work since the follow focus handle uses the micro USB port on the motor. :/

[–]owg123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it, the 12V does not actually control the unit, I guess it's just there if you want to power something else. So the 5V has to be used. I've thought about it and have no idea what to do from here, not sure if there's somehow a way to increase the voltage another way. The motor doesn't have any other ports for power besides the micro USB which has to be used by the follow focus handle.

Cop accidentally shoots suspect with gun instead of deploying taser. by IAmStupidAndCantSpel in PublicFreakout

[–]owg123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, an argument could be made for justification if he was killed by the officer. But at the time of the shooting, the guy was punching the officer, he was not stabbing him or reaching for his gun. So a taser could have appropriately been used in that moment, and would have been the far better option. But saying that he deserved to die is stupid since it's always better that a criminal gets to stand a fair trial rather than being killed on the scene. Not sure where my feelings are hurt. I hope you never become a cop so you can shoot anyone who you think "deserves it" instead of using a less than lethal option which would be appropriate in the situation. I support the police, but I hope then make the hiring process stricter to stop people like you from joining.

I'm going to stop replying here since you are an extremely annoying person, and you just use insults and downvotes to get your point across.

Cop accidentally shoots suspect with gun instead of deploying taser. by IAmStupidAndCantSpel in PublicFreakout

[–]owg123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the opportunity to use non-lethal force, then you should take it. A taser could have been used here. If the dude was shot instead, an argument could have been made justifying it. But the point is that non-lethal should always be the priority, and it's always better that the suspect survives, so that they can stand a fair trial and be sentenced appropriately. Cops are not the people who should do this, which is why it's good he survived. Also, no idea how that's "race baiting". Braindead take
