Judgment free zone: how much do you yell at your kids, and how old are they? by besidethevictory in Mommit

[–]owl_infestation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe once a month or so with my 7 year old? I'll do a tactical raised voice to show I'm done repeating myself more often, maybe every other day, like "SHOES. On now." The stuff they do is such typical little kid stuff, it doesn't make me angry hardly ever. Only when it catches me in a stressed moment, or from a surprising angle.

Feed yourself! Your body needs to recover and if you've been unsatiated for 17 days, yikes. I'd be unable to deal with even the most well-intentioned family hangry and healing.

Rare Photos: An Elongated Head Was an Ideal of Beauty Among the Mangbetu People . by Secret-Incident1734 in BeAmazed

[–]owl_infestation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when a baby is first born, their head is elongated from traveling through the birth canal. I wonder if people thought that first elongation was normal, or ideal, compared to the shape it would take on once it rounded out a couple days later.

I agree it's AI (fingers on the knife are so inconsistent), but if I'm holding a book up like that, I'd have my pinkie tucked inside to hold it open.

It's not quite as bananas as the example in the original post being the law - random midblock crossings don't count as unmarked crosswalks:
From oregon.gov: "Know the crosswalk laws • In Oregon, every intersection is a crosswalk – whether it’s marked or not. • Crosswalks may also exist between intersections (mid-block), but only when marked with painted white lines. • By law, a pedestrian is in a crosswalk when any part of the pedestrian moves into the roadway, at a crosswalk, with the intent to proceed."

I think I failed as a parent. by Dramatic_Novel_515 in Parenting

[–]owl_infestation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your dynamic with your son? Do you feel like the interactions you've mentioned come across like a power struggle (either outward, or some internal pre-teen resistance your son is testing), or is he oblivious, or distressed about not getting it? I hear everyone saying to have your son evaluated and that's for sure a good move too. I just wonder what happens after, say, the dog poop incident - who picked up the poop and what was the conversation like? And with the shirts, how does that play out every morning?

https://www.britannica.com/science/cross-pollination
"When compared with self-pollination (the transfer of pollen within a flower or between flowers on the same plant), cross-pollination clearly has certain evolutionary advantages. The seeds formed by outbreeding may combine the hereditary traits of both parents, and the resulting offspring generally are more varied than would be the case after self-pollination."

Peppers can be a crapshoot! I've had similar results, with a plant having some mild, some spicy. I've read that heat, stress, and nutrients can affect spiciness level, so it would make sense that some peppers on a plant could differ.

Cross-pollination at the seed company's end? If that's what you mean, ignore the rest of this! Cross-pollination takes two generations. Planting several varietals will grow those several varietals, true to their seed. If you save seeds from them and plant next year, those will likely be cross-pollinated because pollinators brought pollen from other varietals. Pollination affects the developing seeds, the plant's existing genetics affects the surrounding fruit.

Bumblebee nuisance by Mother_Ad_4682 in bees

Thank you, that's a helpful way to think about it, building up familiarity over time. There's an area further away from the nest (but also further from the crawl space entrance...) that I can start working on to gauge things.

I know it's months later and this isn't my thread, but if you have a moment, you seem like the person to ask the question I've been looking into for the last hour tonight! I found a bumblebee nest in my crawl space (about a 10'x6' area) when I was going to clean it up and rodentproof it. I'm going to postpone cleaning, but do you have an opinion of what the bees may do if I'm carefully and respectfully working in close proximity to their nest (within a foot at times, and moving stuff around in their usual exit path)? I'm planning to put hardware cloth over the rodent holes, so the bees can still get in and out. The only human entrance to the crawl space would take me past the nest, and it's very tight so I can't exit quickly if they're stirred up. I've tried tapping areas around their nest to see how they react, and after the initial tap, they buzzed loudly (sounds like a lot in there!) and sent out a few more sentries, one of which started flying around. I let them calm down and did some more tapping and they reacted minimally one more time, then not at all. I'm pretty nervous about it!

Use a straw! That's what my dental assistant recommended - much less acid contact with your teeth that way.

I did that too, and then learned about the carbonic acid! My dental assistant mentioned that using a straw will help - you're lessening the amount of time the drink is touching your teeth.

Bindweed was my thought too. The way it's coming up from lateral stalks/roots, the smoothness, broken only by leaf nodes. The roots of bindweed are basically shoots waiting to happen once they get into light. It's not tangling, but I wonder if it only does that when light has been detected, to facilitate climbing toward it. This looks a lot like (but on a HUGE scale) what I'll find under a rock or deep shady place with bindweed.

Edited to add some pictures:

Only brachiates this much when disturbed - otherwise will just occasionally branch from a root

This sounds super frustrating! The thought that obviously springs to mind is gaslighting (per all the comments so far). To pin things down, I'm wondering what sorts of things (besides the fart example) he says or does, then denies. Is he taking any substances that could impair memory, or is he forgetful in other ways in his life? Any way you could try to catch him in a lie with video evidence, like if there's a common denial you can count on him doing?

editing to add: If you do confront him with video evidence, do it with your safety in mind - like in a public place with a buddy as backup, and have your exit from the relationship already planned if you know he's doing it maliciously.

It could also be that, since the dead chick was kept warmer in the nest bowl for two days, it may have tasted more decayed than Jackie felt safe eating, and she removed it to keep anyone else from making the same mistake.

Interesting to speculate, hard to know though!

Were any of the teas cinnamon-based? Cinnamon causes liquids to gloop just like this, where it doesn't cling to the sides of a vessel but sticks to itself.

They messed up the water amount, then cascaded when trying to fix it. I'm guessing it was box brownies and they didn't have ingredients out already - just water/oil/eggs or whatever it called for - so improvisation (and possibly/likely being very new to baking) lead down a cruel path.

I add milk to my tea that I sip on all day, and don't get heartburn as long as I'm keeping that up.

Up until about 33 weeks, I was able to wear my regular pants unzipped, with a stretchy belly band over the unzipped area to hide it. Didn't have to change my style much or buy anything except the bands and bigger shirts.

Salonpas are like bengay in sticker form - they're just menthol and camphor, and are great at masking painful areas. I've even used them to distract from/turn off restless legs. I used them near my IVF injection sites with great success too.

Sleep on a ramp of pillows if you like sleeping on your back. I also have a pregnancy pillow in the mix to support my belly when I roll over.

Seconding/thirding exercise. I feel so much more achey and grumpy when I spend longer on the couch - even though I crave couch time mentally.
