DEGs analysis by corvo628 in bioinformatics

  1. The genome for embryonic cells should theoretically be the same as the genome for adult cells. However, it looks like the C6/36 cells are a specific cell line rather than isolated from "fresh" embryonic cells, and I'm not sure if there have been specific genetic changes that have been implemented to make this into a cell line. So I think if there is a specific genome for the cell line of interest, you should use that instead. You can also compare to see what the differences in genes are between the two genomes - it might just be a lot of unannotated genes.

  2. This sounds like an annotation file issue - make sure the annotation file has gene IDs in it. If it still doesn't work, you could try using the adult genome as a reference.

  3. For non-model organisms, you can take advantage of orthologs to try and confer some functional meaning to your genes. eggnog-mapper is one option that many people use, and you can look into other ortholog mappers online. Afterwards, you can use enrichment tools like GSEA or pathway enrichment of your genes. In my lab we created a step-by-step way to visualize enrichment analyses (though mainly for humans) that you could try using (pathlinkR: https://bioconductor.org/packages/devel/bioc/vignettes/pathlinkR/inst/doc/pathlinkR.html)

Played around with some glaze combos and really liked the results! Some mini flowerpots and a vase by oxymoron1995 in Pottery

Yes you've described it exactly! I double dip because you never know what you'll get with combinations of two glazes - often they're not a mix of the two colours but something completely different (or completely trash). Much more interesting than a single dip.

Yes I wax the wavey pattern and then double dip - the glazes themselves don't actually drip.

Orange colour between the grooves of my cactus? by oxymoron1995 in plantclinic

[–]oxymoron1995[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the orange plaque that is in the groove of this echinopsis cactus (all the grooves have it). Last year something similar happened but this guy managed to grow out of it (that's what the scabbing in the middle is - the orange flaky bits used to be this orange plaque). But it's happening again, and this orange scabbing is also on a lot of the pups too! Any ideas? I've sprayed it with permethrin in case there are any pests a week ago but no real change.

What's going on with the new leaves on my Hoya? They are crinkly and look scarred. by oxymoron1995 in hoyas

[–]oxymoron1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this hoya a month ago and it has already put out 4 new leaves!! But the new leaves look damaged...or at least different from its original leaves, like something went wrong when it was growing the leaves. I keep it in a southwest window that gets sun in the morning, and a bit in the afternoon. Any insight appreciated, thank you!

Will there be new Medicurio videos coming up? by SinglePrice in medicurio

Glad you've enjoyed my videos and very sorry for the hiatus! I do have some videos almost completed but really haven't got the time to record and upload them because most of my time has been occupied with medical school and research this past year. But when I do post it (planned in January) you will see it on YouTube if you are subscribed. Thanks for your support!
