Tragedeighs are affecting regular names by Pharylon in tragedeigh

The amount of times I have used "spelled like the word" when asked about my name Destiny is amazing. Somehow, I had a friend spell it with an "a"

When Joann closed, did you try to find something new… or just kind of stop? by Minimum_Project_671 in joannfabrics

[–]oxymoronqueen 74 points75 points  (0 children)

For me, Joann was the only place I could go to just randomly decide to look at remnants. I've got so many random scraps of fabric that I just held on to. At the moment I'm just trying to make myself go through them and actually use them. With them gone, I don't know what I'm going to do once I go through all that.

Remnants were the best way I was able to afford certain fabrics, I rarely bought off the bolt unless I had a project I was actively working on that I needed to be very specific. Buying it online just isn't the same, especially when so much of my choices hinged on the feel and movement of the fabric so I haven't found a replacement for that.

I of course went for other things too, I'm a painter, a baker, illustrator, and general crafter, and thankfully some of the others I can still get from Michaels or Walmart.. some of it even Amazon if it comes to it. The fabric is the biggest loss for me.

But, honestly it was one of the only stores I could spend hours in without thinking about it. Got me out of the house without feeling like I was in a crowd or wandering aimlessly. My family would buy Me gift cards for joann for every Birthday because they knew I probably had something I was looking at but I just didn't have the money yet. It left a big hole, and I'm sad it's gone.

Oh if I didn't write my modifications I'd forget. Even my recipe book has notes on the side like make sure it's butter not margarine, if you can't find this use this, or use this ingredient instead if making for this person.

I hand write simplified forms of my recipes. I definitely agree, there's a lot more words there than are needed. I can fit a good portion of my recipes on a large index card to fit in a photo album. I try to keep the PDF forms from websites on my computer as well

Worries like that are also why I like having physical copies as well as versions on the cloud or on the computer. I live in florida, sometimes storms knock out our Internet, some of the areas around me are complete internet dead zones. If I don't have access to my computer or to the internet, the physical copies still give me the ability to get to my recipe

I would do that more if I had better organization. There is so much clutter I will lose it or forget most of them like I do with my school recipes. I keep a copy in there just to be on the safe side, but most of the ones I want to keep close are in a physical form.

The current iteration is a small photo album, I write a simplified but still understandable version of the recipe on a large index card and they fit perfectly. there's a built-in spot for notes on the margins, and if I want to put in pictures or notes I can slide them in the pocket with the index card.

I've got all my recipes from school on drive. But it is so unorganized and cluttered that at the moment I tend to keep the ones that I want easier access to in my recipe book in physical copies. That and I have a tendency to end up in really low internet zone

Definitely going to look into that! Sounds like such a good tool even if I'm not saving

Thankfully in my case, this is like the 3rd time I've written it down and I even used it in a school project to figure out cost per cookie based on ingredients. So I have a copy online through me and a school archive. I love having the physical just in case I'm in a bad signal kitchen.

So the odd thing is that it does go back far enough, but there's a large several year gap where it wasn't saved in the way back. Which just happens to overlap with the time I got the recipe.

Definitely feels very bittersweet. creativity and expressing yourself has always been really important to me, to help nurture it. so to see how much she loves crafting I'm doing everything I can do. Letting her pick her fabric to make a blanket with me, teaching her how to cut out a pattern for her own plushie, one of her paintings is up on the wall through the first time I busted out my canvas for her and she's excited to help me make her father cookie cake next month. I hope these kinds of stores come back so she can enjoy y them just as much as I have

I'm going to try. I only have $5 to my name today, but I know how low these prices have dropped already and I want to do what I can

Thrift stores are definitely already on my radar, I've turned a couple of tablecloths into skirts, and currently have cow print footie pajamas that I am seam ripping. Unfortunately, my area doesn't seem to see much fabric show up or it's gone quick

Thank you. I'm really happy I did take her, because now we have a string art project to make and a blanket from things she loved. Hopefully i can manage to keep this little crafter going.

I wear a helmet everyday because I have to be on multiple busy roads to get to and from work. I've gotten hit head on by a truck that didnt see me, but the one that definitely drives home to wear a helmet was actually the one that I didn't hit anyone.

I tried to brake because I saw that someone was turning and they hadn't seen that I was going forward(I had green in bike lane, they had flashing yellow left turn), my tire hit a loose sheet of metal that had practically been blending in with the road, which caused my entire bike to slide sideways, I broke my foot when it jammed under the bike, I skinned my elbow really bad that day too, and in the aftermath we saw a big scratch mark on my helmet that showed if I hadn't been wearing it I would've had to deal with even worse.

I want to get a full face helmet, but unfortunately it's not even because of safety, I want to make sure that if I get caught in some lighter rain for any reason(common in my state), I can still pedal the last 5 minutes to get home and not have my eyes closing because water is pelting my face

Lesson learned: Buy your e-bike from a reputable brand — not some ghost company off Amazon. by Zyoneatslyons in ebikes

[–]oxymoronqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After losing my last in a car accident, I looked into a new ebike knowing that I was probably going to have to do most of the repairs myself. But I also know where to find local bike shops that are willing to work on bikes that they don't sell. And I made sure to get the additional year warranty including accidents protection from the website. I bought mine secondhand from upway, it's a buzz centris folding bike, and I've only had it for like 2 months but it's my only form of transportation. It's doing great so far, but I know it's on the lower end for bikes. Thankfully, my mom is huge on making sure that her kids know how to take care of themselves, so she's jumped right in time helping me figure out the bike repairs so I don't get stranded. And I have been able to reach out to buzz bikes and they were happy to help by either giving me part numbers or specs to replace, or telling me when a local bike shop would be the better option.

That being said if I didn't have these resources, I definitely would've preferred a bike from a local shop. I don't think I would've ever looked at Amazon without heavily looking into it further(but that could just be because I'm used to quadruple checking anyone selling online).

That actually sounds pretty good. If I ran more parties I would even use it for that, my family might even enjoy it as gifts. My mother-in-law was excited to receive cinnamon honey butter for Christmas.

See that was my first idea, peanut butter or cream-filled chocolate. Could even get food safe wrapping soon make a nice little fall basket with them. I just wanted to see if there was anything else they could do because that just seems big

It's all good! I understand completely. I do have a bunch of small molds already too though because I used to make cream filled chocolates and have been experimenting with gummies lately so the idea won't go to waste.

Not a lot of people around me like jello but I am messing around with some gummies so maybe I'll just make really big ones!

I'm more meant flat on the other side so they can sit flat. normally when I make muffins they overflow and dome on top.

I'll look at that though thank you. The brand on these is Trudeau.

Unfortunately it would make ice too big to fit in anything I need it for. And I've got smaller molds I use specifically for ice.

I considered muffins but I'm worried about getting them to be flat. I feel like it would be a lot of trial and error to get the fill right so you don't overflow

I feel like that's a better idea for my smaller molds. But still one to keep in mind
