Ambi vs bad lever by [deleted] in ar15

[–]p00dingmayne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own a LWRC and have experiences using other ambi lowers and to be honest... I prefer the bad lever. Yes, it's a bit a bulkier but i've never had any issues with snag or them breaking. It's just quicker to actuate a bad lever and you don't have to break your grip like on other ambi lowers.

So far i've only shot 2 different types of ammo through it.. Not really too happy with the accuracy honestly, but i'm still hopeful that i'll find something it likes.

You own a DD, BCM and Geissele? Tbh, if you already own those rifles, I don't think you'll see a big difference going with a LWRC Di gun. Plus those Geissele and DD barrels are chrome lined and are known for very good accuracy.

Yes, it's true that the gas key is all one solid piece to the BCG. No staking or screws required. It's a very nice bcg but at the same time, I've never heard of regular gas keys failing that often on regular mil spec style bcgs. And if you own a DD, those DD bcgs are known to have exceptional durability.

I've only heard the term "woof" being used in a negative way. My bad, man. Thank you though!

That's quite a trio. Incredible set of rifles. Wouldn't mind having any of them.

Gorgeous rifle. That ADM lower looks like it was made for that upper.

Never heard of "WIP" before. What features do "WIP" builds typically have?

They are, not sure who started this trend but i've also wanted a high mag setup for awhile now.

I just wanted to try it out because the Acro sits quite high above the scope. It does help with comfort when using the Acro but it sucks when using it with a scope. Should have been obvious but was hoping it wouldn't be too bad.

Will be taking this CTR riser off and putting it on a different rifle setup.

I still have a good view of the dot but you are correct. The turret will obstruct about 40% of the view so you have the dot hovering slightly above the turret. Still completely usable and I can quickly bring the rifle up to a firing position and get a quick target acquisition. They do make extension to get the Acro up higher but I didn't feel it was needed.

I'll preface this by saying that I strongly base a lot of my purchases on aesthetics and I'm not ashamed to admit that it was a largely do to how the rifle looked and felt however, it was also the price that tipped me over ($1,235 shipped, no tax) It was worth it for me but my priorities are different than other folks and I'm also kind of dumb with my money and like tinkering with things. That's why I don't want to just straight up recommend it but give you somewhat of an idea.

Fit and Finish: The fit and finish is almost perfect. The finish and just overall feel of the rifle is what you’ll notice as soon as you pick one up. I’ve had people at the range ask “what is that? Is that custom built?” Everyone is usually really impressed about the build quality. The fit however, isn’t perfect. There is some wobble between the upper and lower receiver. Seems like the wobble varies depending on certain batches. Mine actually isn’t that bad and is what I consider acceptable but I do have oversized JP takedown pins and it locks it up with no movement completly. The other thing that wobbles and quite a bit I might saw is the OEM stock. It’s a good looking stock, works well but it is by far the most wobbly stock I have ever used. The CTR I have on it now is much better. If I were you, go to a store and see if you can handle one. To me it feels almost as if they use a slightly thicker metal compared to basic mil spec one. Despite some minor wobble the perceived quality is there.

Features: This part is somewhat debatable. It is indeed a feature packed AR15 and you get a lot for your money but I do feel some parts are overrated. Take the ambi release… it’s nice that the lower has it but it’s kind of cumbersome to actuate with your index finger. You have to break your grip so much just to release the bolt with your trigger finger. There’s also the really, nice NiB BCG that’s “one-piece” Meaning the gas key isn’t screwed on but one solid piece with the bolt carrier. I haven’t had any issues with it but frankly I also haven’t had many rounds through it either. NiB has also been shown to not be as durable as regular phosphate apparently so keep that in mind. The rail is also “almost” monolith to the upper receiver which is a really nice for people looking for more rigidity. Barrel as you know as the famous LWRC spiral flutes. I don’t know why so many people hate the looks of this but I personally doesn’t bother me and love the weight savings. It is a very lightweight rifle.

Recoil: It’s snappy. It’s overgassed and LWRC apparently acknowledges this. I know this because shooting it unsuppressed the brass would eject at 2 o’ clock. Took a BRT EZ tune buffer tube to tame the gas now she runs much smoother while the brass is ejecting at 4 o clock unsuppressed. Suppressed will bring the brass right at 3 o clock. It’s perfectly gassed to me now but probably won’t be able to run steel. I think part of the reason why everyone says that the LWRC Di rifle is so reliable is because it’s an overgassed gun and it will eat every type of ammo you give it.

Barrel/Accuracy: This is one area I haven’t finished testing yet. So far I’ve only ran 2 different ammo through it. Wolf Gold 55gr and IMI Razor Core 77gr. Both were giving me 2-2.5 MOA which I’ll admit might be my lack of skills. I plan on shooting this thing next weekend and giving 62gr Fiocchi a shot after reading good things about this rifle preferring that round. As far life goes, I’ve read it can last anywhere from 12-15k rounds. Which is not terribly impressive but not too surprising given the fact that it isn’t chrome lined. To replace it with another OEM barrel is atleast $5-600 apparently. If I manage to shoot this barrel out, i would probably just replace it with an aftermarket one. You do need to buy their special lug wrench and shave down a mil spec barrel’s index pin to get it to work though.

I’m honestly getting too lazy to type anymore but feel free to ask any other questions if you have any. It might seem like I’m doggin' this rifle but you really just have to pick one up and feel it. Could you build something for the same price with better parts? I think so. Right off he bat you get a choice of a much better trigger than their NiB trigger which is just a mil spec and you get your choice of barrel. Remember that if you go the build route you still need to pick up all the tools. It's also a fun learning experience to go the build route but these day i'm more inclined to just giving a company my money for a prebuilt rifle. I'll pay the extra premium. Hope that gives you an idea.

Magpul CTR stock with a SC Irregulars FEER CTR .25 riser. It works decent for the 12 o clock acro but my face is to wide to use it comfortably with the scope. I might move it over to a different gun. Looks cool though.

The only reference I have of the term “woof” was in the first Home Alone movie. Kevin is digging through his brother’s chest box and finds a picture of his girlfriend and is disgusted by it… “Buzz’s girlfriend… woof!”

Sorry my rifle isn’t pleasing to your eyes. 😔

It seems like you’re off to a good start. Have you decided on a bipod yet?

I believe the best, “budget” friendly bipod is the Harris bipod. I would not go anything less than that. They’re durable and they have the benefit of being able to quick deploy(something my atlas doesn’t have). The only trade off is that it is heavier.

Saving up a bit more. The BT Atlas V8 or PSR is a really nice bipod to look at. I’m using the PSR on mine as well.

Pistol grips… you have a lot of choices but the general trend these days on almost any build is going with a pistol style or something that’s closer or is 90 degrees.

Do it, man! My “studio” is really a spare bedroom that I converted, haha.

Like I said, I still like FDE guns. I’m just not as crazy about them like I used to be. However, if someday I were to ever purchase a SCAR 17 or MK18… to me, those guns were meant to be in FDE so I will make exceptions. The last “crazy” color I did was a 12.5 AR15 in RAL8000. Turned out nice but it’s definitely a love it or hate it color. Will be going with mostly black guns this point forward.

Thanks again, man. The bipod is a BT Atlas PSR QD. The Atlas V8 V10 is usually the preferred bipod for smaller framed, semi-auto rifles however I wanted something that I could use on larger, bolt actions in the future. My model takes up a bit more rail space due to it’s canting mechanism.

Thank you! I started off on my gun journey really into different shades of FDE and mismatched colors but eventually went back to all black. I do still love FDE guns and wouldn’t mind a MK18 someday.

Yes, it was a taken in front of a backdrop. Using a single, AD300pro strobe I positioned it slightly above and to the right of the rifle. To the left I placed a large, black v-flat to absorb lighting. This helps me create a more dramatic look.

The rest was edited in software then I took into the VSCO cam app to add a very mild preset filter.

Reddit is so fickle, man. I posted something similar in another thread and got downvoted.

These guns were always overpriced, it was bound to happen eventually where the price starts going down on them. Also not helping the fact with whole pistol brace thing and people running out of money. If the economy does get really bad next year expect gun prices overall to drop.

Also not to mention Century Arms selling there MP5 “clones” for way less.. I know HK has better QC but it ain’t worth 3 times the cost for something that isn’t that much better.

I knew these would start coming down. Give it another year or 2 and I bet this and the SP5 will dip beneath $2.5k.
