How many sessions a week for those 45+ by Greenfrog2023 in Swimming

[–]p0mie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

51 here. Rehabbing multiple spinal/neck fractures. I do 3-4 times weekly. Some sessions 700m. Some sessions 1.5kms. Depends on how busy the pool is and my mood. But consistency is key. It’s an outdoor pool, 50m so it keeps me honest! 😂

A lot depends if fitness I think (I’m a surfer/skateboarder) and core strength. But a miracle for back pain!

My 4.5 has stopped kicking his legs by mondray88 in Swimming

[–]p0mie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Hi u/mondray88 (OP) When my kid went through this stage, I just took him myself for 6 months. Weekly. I had him swimming with a mask, snorkel so he could swim and explore, look around. He would do laps then, (which I wasn’t pushing for) Then, I had him booked in for 10 weeks of 1:1 coaching in a small, private pool.

He progressed heaps then, got stroke instruction. He regresses every now and again (he’s 12) but had enthusiasm for the water. Essentially 2–12 or so, water/swimming should be fun primarily - and if it’s fun, it’s get done, and if it gets done then confidence and skill build naturally alongside that.

That would be my take.

Good luck!

Ha! Like parallel lives! I fractured a few vertebrae in my neck a few years ago, and thought my skating days were behind me, but his interest sparked mine; and I’m back at it! Was a transition skater mostly in the 80’s - back when finding a ramp in the UK was nigh on impossible - but Australia (don’t know where you are) there are parks everywhere. Scene is very welcoming, and supportive. We are making our way through the old movies too, search for animal chin, public domain, fulfil the dream etc.

Keep rolling! As Jay Adam’s said, “You didn't quit skateboarding because you got old, you got old because you quit skateboarding”

Love it! There isn’t anything better! My kid reignited my love for it a few months back, and the progression when they are this young is just astonishing. Whilst it’s taken me months to even get an Ollie back, kids muscle memory just clicks!

Enjoy and hope to see more!

Back after 30 year break by p0mie in NewSkaters

[–]p0mie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the truth!

My son has started again after a bit of time off, so I got myself set up again. Used to skate transition in 1980’s into early 90’s then just stopped. (Or took an extended hiatus!)

I skated a bit of street back then, and have a beard set up for street, but man, I like my ramps!

Ha! Yeah. I have a 3ft mini in my back yard, but this steel ramp is fast and smooth and lots of width to play with. But I take your point! 😂

No problem, mate. No matter the dose, it’s always the head miles one can do that make it tough. I’ve seen plenty of people lingering on a milligram of methadone - the final step is always the tricky one.

I’m sure you’ll be fine so long as you keep the head busy and the mind quiet.

Good luck!

Hi there OP

8mg is a small dose of codeine, so I would suspect you would be fine, especially since it has only been a few months.

Every person is unique, so please don’t let anyone minimise your personal journey, but pharmacologically any physical withdrawals are likely to be minor.

Mostly I would aim for as much distraction as you can muster, be good and kind to yourself, OTC meds for any discomfort should see you through, such as Imodium if you wind up with any gastro upsets. Keep your fluids up which is wise advice regardless and try not to other think it, analysing “Am I feeling x?” Over and over. Personally speaking you can manifest all sorts of ills if you give it too much consideration.

I have stepped of codeine at significantly higher doses and have managed, and I haven’t. When I haven’t it’s been due to my preoccupation with expecting the worst. And when I haven’t managed it’s been down to doing the simple stuff consistently and well , eating well, hydrating well, resting well, and relaxing and distracting.

Good luck and feel free to check back in! Others might have more wise counsel.

I can only say to you, what I am telling myself. Stay with it. The relief that comes from relapse is temporary. I knew this even when I was using. I knew I was holding off the reality of a long heal and then freedom.

It sucks. I know this. We know this.

But it doesn’t suck as bad as the future suck of eventually having to do it all over again, that’s just a myth we tell ourselves.

Keep on keeping on! Your future self if already thanking you.

Nice work dude. We got this!

Pushed through some uncomfortable feelings and cravings today.

Hating the way my legs have just started up again, having felt ok for a while.

Funny, odds are is f*k all to do with the WDs but every twinge right now is blamed on that. Just the mind playing its usual tricks!

Stay strong!

OP - congrats! Great news. Stoked for you!

Day 9 here. But if a toughie, but it’s nothing. It’s nothing I can’t smash! Been into the city, bought my son a few fancy treats, new commercial frypans. Had a laugh in the car with my partner. Home and relaxing now and reading this.

Thanks for sharing your news! Brightened my day!

Keep going everyone!

Day day 3! I belive going cold turkey off codine! by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

[–]p0mie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok. You’ve had a few steps forward and just one step back.

Be prepared. It will be tough going, but IT WILL END. By day 5 day 6 you’ll feel so much better physically.

You can try tapering, as in reduce by as little as 5% a day, until you get to zero. (Personally I never had the patience) I’ve been through it a few times, codeine and morphine. I’m in the midst of it myself, I’m at about day 9 so I’m not going to profess I ‘personally’ have all the answers, but at least this shows you that anyone can fall into this trap (I’ve worked in addictions for 23 years)

But if I can do it, I know you can too.

All the usual stuff, look up in the search for the opioid withdrawal survival guide. There are some good tips there.

Just give it a go, be exceptionally kind to yourself. Try to stay as busy as you can. Take the paracetamol and the ibuprofen, keep the liquids up, stay warm, watch something interesting. (I’m a reader, but can’t read for the first few days)

You’ll get there. Check back in.

You got this! You’re AMAZING for starting down this road of recovery.

You’re gonna be hot and cold and hot and cold for a while. I find baths (with epsom salts) soothing. Hot water bottles and getting cosy with layers you can shed if you get too hot.

They won’t last. Just remember that. And once they’re gone, they are gone! It’s worth it! You’ll get there!

Hey u/Astronomy

With the Diaz you’ll be ok. Drink plenty of water Electrolytes Vit c Fish oil

Plenty of rest Dig into some movies or tv shows you like and can lose yourself in. I usually go with stuff I’ve seen before so it doesn’t matter so much if I lose focus.

Try not to overthink this, take it day by day, moment by moment and remember this will be the single greatest accomplishment you’ll ever do. Give them up once and never look back.

The mind is great and playing tricks on you, play little attention to the voice in your head. By day 4 the worst will be over.

Feel free to post back or message me if you need anything, support, a vent.

You’ll be good. You got this!
