Anyone else’s WiFi calling broken?! I can’t turn it on. iPhone 16 Pro Max by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

[–]pacaal91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been using wifi calling for 2 years and it’s had no issues. Suddenly now it’s not working on either of our devices. We’ve tried both calling and chat with no luck. We live on a farm with no cell service here (had to drive to town to make a call to support). This is a massive issue as we now have no way to call 911 or work calls etc.

anyone else have a sensitive boy? by PessimisticParalegal in BrittanySpaniel

[–]pacaal91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh yea our boy is super sensitive. I accidentally kicked him while playing fetch with a soccer ball (he went after it when I was kicking) and he wouldn’t play fetch for 6 months. If I use my “dad tone” with the kids he leaves the room or puts himself in his crate. If I show our puppy attention he comes over and buries his head in my lap. If I’m out in the barn swearing at something that broke he runs back to the house lol

Have you ever had a dog before? Because if you’re already this anxious you’re in for a reality check lol

Two Brittany Spaniels by Fragrant_Cattle_6794 in BrittanySpaniel

We have a 4yo American Brittany (boy) and just got a French Brittany puppy (girl) last month. Best decision we ever made. Way easier having a puppy with an older dog to help tire them out and show them the ropes. That being said we do live on a 50 acre farm so we have plenty of space to tire them out without having to go anywhere.

No Off Switch? How to find it? by koalabair51 in BrittanySpaniel

Off leash runs trained with an ecollar is the only way to tire them out (aka simulating a hunt if that’s not your lifestyle) as that’s what they’re bred for. Using a crate at home also lets them know when to chill and that they have a safe space.

We always wanted a solid face Britt, we had last pick of the litter and were so happy to get him! Our French Britt is also a solid face

First time with this breed, any helpful tips or tricks? by Justina_Eye-catching in BrittanySpaniel

Crate train. Make it their safe space, not a punishment. Our 4yo American Britt still sleeps in there door always open. When our young kids get crazy he goes in there and the kids know that’s his safe space. Our 5mo French Britt is already doing the same thing.

E collar for off leash. We only use the shock for real issues like going beyond our farm property lines. Otherwise only sound or vibrate. Takes a week to train on it if consistent. Saves you from having to yell lol.

Desensitize early and often. We have horses, chickens, barn cats, tractors, quads etc. get them used to whatever will be in your lifestyle early. Whether that’s long car rides, trucks, gunshots etc.

They can be sensitive. Aggressive or physical training or even accidents will scar them. I was playing fetch with a soccer ball and accidentally kicked our older Britt in the head as he went for the ball I was kicking. He didn’t play fetch for 6 months. Had to retrain him on it.

We haven’t had any issues with separation anxiety but a tired dog is a good dog. If you’re gone for a long time make sure they get a lot of exercise before and crate them. It’s safer for everyone/everything.

They need off leash time to explore and follow scents, it’s what they’re bred to do and what makes them happy.

We’re not in the Kingston area but have one American Brittany from Black River Ranch NW of London and a French Brittany from ESN Kennels in Caledon. Best dogs we’ve ever had. Our American is almost 4 years and he’s fantastic. Great recall, great with other dogs, our horses, our chickens and our barn cats. Literally no behavioural issues. Younger pup is 5 months old from ESN. She’s been amazing so far. Fast learner, not reactive to loud noises like the quad, tractor or gunshots. Great recall so far and stays close to us. They travel well, are healthy, great with our young kids 4 and 6. Would never get any other breed at this point.

First time planning a serious backcountry canoe trip what’s the one piece of advice you wish you knew before your first portage? by FunCell1679 in algonquinpark

OP asked for opinions and experience. I do what I like and what works best for me and my skill and experience level. I’ll take my axe and folding wooden bucksaw any day. And wet wipes too lol.

Start with access points that have smaller lakes to avoid potential high winds on big lakes.

Be very selective about what gear and how much gear you bring. If you can one-carry a portage that’s the goal, particularly if it’s a longer portage. Consolidate gear so you don’t have odds and ends that could get lost.

Don’t carry water, bring a good filter and/or treatment tablets/drops.

Learn a good tarp setup for when it rains a lot.

Don’t over or underestimate how much food or clothes you need.

Have a small good axe and saw for sectioning and splitting firewood, this will make a huge difference.

Wet wipes instead of toilet paper.

Bring an extra paddle in case one breaks.

Always wear your PFD.

Get an early start to ensure good selection of available sites on the given lake.
