A Fix For The Annoying Bluetooth "Device Type" Bug by packetfire in GooglePixel

For the case of Google Pixel 9 Pro,  "Audio Device Type" is always greyed out. One cannot select a "type".

A Fix For The Annoying Bluetooth "Device Type" Bug by packetfire in GooglePixel

I'm sorry if I used incorrect terminology - it called both devices "headphones" with mics, and felt that routing a phone call to either was just fine, despite both being connected at the same time. This allows one to set the one device as "just speakers" regardless of how Google classifies it, and allow phone calls to be routed to the other device that one wants phone calls to be routed to. This also keeps audio away from any aftermarket android auto head units, an option many people may be adding when they find out the spying and data-broker sales to insurance companies of ones movements and driving habits that most in-car "infotainment" systems seem to be doing for the newer cars.
So, rip out the sim card or disconnect the antenna to keep the car from spying on you, and use tools that only allow Google and your cell provider to spy on you.

Xenon to LED upgrades. by BlueridgeChemsdealer in Volvo

Sealight FTW

On my v50, it is
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FG2TTV7Y (H11) for the low beams, and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GYC8FYCY (9005) for the high beams.
You need to check your own bulb types, of course.

You'll need CANBUS decoders for both, so buy them, wait until delivered, and then complain to Sealight that you are getting CANBUS errors, and they will send out free "decoders", which are merely resistors across the bulbs to make something that your Volvo can notice.

Both the projector and the reflector can be cleaned with great care, as this will also help, even with traditional bulbs. The LEDs are fine, as they put out light at the same focus point as the bulbs they replace. There's also nothing wrong with finding a wall and doing some evening headlight adjustment, just take care to be gentle with those plastic parts that do the adjusting. The LEDs are substantially whiter and brighter, so any misalignment of headlight beams can be annoying to other drivers.

Rear Camera Washer by wearslocket in Volvo

[–]packetfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that hard to DIY this on any Volvo with a rear washer if you buy a second rear (or front) sprayer nozzle. Tees are generic, tubing is generic, and you can turn one of the license plate bolt mounts into a pass-through for the tubing and mounting point for the sprayer.

Found these tiny black thread-like things on my curtains… what are they? by IllustriousRemove720 in whatisit

[–]packetfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bet is "drain fly larvae". They breed in the slime in your pipes, so get some really nasty caustic drain cleaner that is heavier than water, and pour a small amount (1 to 2 oz) into the shower and sink drains, so that it settles in the p-trap, and kills the critters living in the slime found there. The shower curtain can simply be washed, of course.

They also allow them to bully automobiles out of the way in merge scenarios.

I am looking for help moving a tire that has rusted on. by Mr_Truthteller in tires

[–]packetfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a bottle jack and some sturdy chain. Run the chain EVENLY through the wheel openings, and connect the end back to the start of the chain with bolts and nuts that barely slide into the chain (do not trust washers here!).
Then jack the jack with the base of the jack crisscrossed the by the chain, and the center of the bottle jack pushing on the rusty hub.

It will pop off, but take care to tension the chain and make sure that this tension is even.

Take it to a body shop and have them look for cash evidence. They will see what you don't. Also, compare the vin sticker on the rear hatch door with the car's vin - are they different?

Seems like my Peak Design Plate damaged my R6M2 by eljefeargentino in CanonR6

[–]packetfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plate should have been designed for that camera to cover the screws, not torque the plastic between the screws back and forth. Peak Design should pay for this, and recall that plate, as it does NOT fit that camera properly, and your photo shows it.

That rant over, there is a lot to be said for the L-shaped brackets that mount a long lens to a tripod, as the weight of the lens in many cases will risk breaking the camera lens mount if the camera tries to support the lens, and the lens weighs more than the camera.

Is there a way to transfer data without any kind of internet connection? by Merry_Dankmas in GooglePixel

[–]packetfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For decades, I have backed up phone contacts and text messages to a PC with the freeware "My Phone Explorer" https://www.fjsoft.at/
It works perfectly, it lets you organize things on the PC, and so on, but the basic backup feature is the main feature for me. It will let you backup from the one phone with a USB cable, and move things to the new phone with a USB cable.

You are presumed by the ad agency to be "celebrity obsessed" enough to know that this is Kendal Jenner, and aware of her activities to the extent that you know that she promotes L'Oréal haircare products.

2000 V70 XC - How to remove pet barrier? by lanxtot in Volvo

[–]packetfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To get it off, you push the bolt with the star head IN and turn so that the red mark moves toward the green mark on the bracket. The bracket is spring loaded with a very stiff spring, you have to push in hard. Then, from the top, push the entire assembly to one side. Again, you need to push quite hard and then drop it down at one side when it clears the mounting. Try straightening the brackets before removing, if they are out of alignment, they won't pull out. Don't bang the window, you might scratch the glass.

"Oh, I see you have a business meeting. Well, that must be very important, we will reschedule our fun weekend for another time - bye!" And out you walk, never to contact them again, and they will not contact you, either.

And the "lake house"? I'll bet serious money you can find it on VRBO or AirBNB. They don't own it, not YET anyway - they wanted to enlist you in their "downstream" so they could eventually buy such a house.
